Re: Swindon Town FC (H) match thread
Whitfield and Newby can both operate on either wing, and they can even rotate, so why not have our best two crossers of the ball both on the pitch and supplying Stockton (and Acquah also perhaps) with some quality?
I would have given Newbs MoM today, and he wasn't particularly good.

I didn’t mention booing. Personally stood and clapped at the end of the Morecambe game and I didn’t hear any today either, point is the whole “judge us after 46 game” comment, are fans not entitled to be concerned after two very poor performances as we go into the business end of the season, as someone previously mentioned we have got the best team in 50 years, maybe that sets expectations higher.Louis29 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 7:14 pmCalm yourself down.Bombadel wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 6:31 pm Could have easily been 0-4, baffling performance, good question from Adam about the subdued silence after the game and PW saying judge us after 46 games? If you walk in dog turd twice on one street, people are just supposed to carry on and look towards the off licence at the end of the street? Would be amazing for the town to get in the play offs at least, people have a right to be concerned, last time we went through a rut it was only the break following the called off Bradford game which seemed to rejuvenate the team.
No booing where I was at. We all want a team that plays Barrowcelona football and finishes teams of with ease. But we are league 2.
League 2!!!! Be grateful we are in the football league with a manager that has turned us from relegation candidates to playoff candidates on a smaller budget compared to the big hitters around us.
Now we are at the end of the season and because of our position people are too critical. Still a work in progress and under Pete the squad will evolve further. His problem is his success. The fickle Barrow public now believe we are owed the playoff berth. We really should just enjoy the ride with the bumps in the road. Nearly mid April and we are in the play off places blimey. Who would of thought.

Seem to disagree with you most weeks on Whitfield and that’s fine. Its opinions.blue nige wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 7:10 pm Whitfield is our most consistent forward so to decide to take him off based on what he he/ hadn't done was nieve at best, White yeah didn't do much wrong but just look how he plays side ways/ backwards that's OK if you're hanging on to a game!, Spence I agree but still to put him at full back is borderline stupidity Stockton should have gone off but we bring Proctor on PLEASE!, people are rightly angry, I don't buy this look where we are yes absolutely brilliant BUT to put in hardly any effort is inexcusable!
I actually feel harsh myself because he is probably
one of the best we have, just don’t necessarily agree with shoe horning him in just to appease.
White. Agreed. Did nothing wrong but nothing spectacular. However… all we need to do is not lose games from this morning to the 27th. It doesn’t have to be spectacular. It has to be efficient and planned.
Stockton didn’t deserve to stay on. As much as proctor didn’t deserve to be on.
Bench last 2/3 games has been nuts.
I’ll reiterate, PW is keeping people happy rather than picking the right squad. Only slack I’d give him this week is the injuries from Monday.

You sound like a true fan taking the rough with the smooth!!!
Are you ever happy? This is football and the team that hardly put any effort in have got us to the potential playoffs.
Sorry your right they can’t be arsed and not excited at potentially getting to Wembley in the playoffs and getting noticed by teams further up the food chain. Not like it is their livelihoods is it!!!!
Be disappointed but not angry please

Because perhaps we need to get out of the mindset of attack attack attack.Bigfathoss wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 7:20 pm Whitfield and Newby can both operate on either wing, and they can even rotate, so why not have our best two crossers of the ball both on the pitch and supplying Stockton (and Acquah also perhaps) with some quality?

Our best results have come from scraping wins but not conceding.
Everyone wants pretty exciting football but when the arse is tightening with 5 to go it’s about not losing
now surely.

Re: Swindon Town FC (H) match thread
Whitfield isn’t a wing back; and tbh neither is Newby, albeit he has done a decent job there this season. Whitfield looked miles better away at Morecambe late on when he was played further forward out wide. As has been mentioned countless times unfortunately in the system we play Whitfield doesn’t really have a position despite on paper being one of our better players. Not sure what’s going on with Tiensa but surely got to be worth a shot at left wing back?
Also agree with someone earlier who said Spence needs a rest, he was well below par today and at Morecambe

I was one of about 20 people who clapped thr player's off today. please don't patronise me with your rant ,where did I say I wouldn't be excited at a prospect of a Wembley appearanceLouis29 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 7:21 pmGive your head a shake. Also never mentioned I don't buy into where we are ,what I actually said was that's not an excuse for the last 2 performances, I don't expect them to be brilliant every week BUT I expect closing player's down and movement on the pitch so please criticise but F**** ing read what I wrote before writing stuff that clearly bears no resemblance to what I wrote thanks !

Maybe we just play him in a more suited position, like over this period when he wasn't having to think as much about defending. Mostly Same system then as now
Who knows. Glad im not a manager.

Thought we were shite today but the ref was an absolute jobs worth. His unwillingness to play advantage for either team resulted in him blasting his whistle every 30 seconds. Power trip and a half

Re: Swindon Town FC (H) match thread
First of all I would like to thank Pete Wild for getting our team into a great position in this season and the last one. Before he agreed to come the team was all at sea and only narrowly avoided slipping down back into the National League. He has changed our fortunes immensely
Having said that I think the players apart from Paul Farman have let him down today. They are paid professionals who should know how to pass and place a ball but today working as a team seemed to desert them.I don,t think there could have been much communication judging on there performance,ie when Aquah could have passed the ball to Stockton who was alongside him and had an open goal he decided to shoot with it ending up anywhere but in the back of the net. Then we had Telford missing an open goal. There are two goals we should have had.We could have won this game but lack of communication gave us the result we ended up with.
What your have to remember is that this is Barrow and having supported them since the 1960,s we never do things the easy way,so I will be on the terraces on Tuesday nightcheering the lads on hoping they can put these two bad results behind them and turn in the type of performance that we all know they are capable of.
Keep the Faith
Onwards and Upwards.

Amazed we ate in this position. Wild has been fantastic. 2 poor games doesn't take away our unbelievable position. Lots to consider going forward. However, Pete will get us over the line.

Nonsense. He's the only player we have who knows how to pass a ball accurately. Together with Spence should be automatic choices every match when fit.Gaffer wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 4:00 pmCampbell was very poor last game. How come key mid-fielder Dean Campbell has been omitted from the squad?
In his podcast he was looking forward to the game....

Re: Swindon Town FC (H) match thread
Because he was the only player who made the effort to get back! When Warren goes forward he doesn't do more than break into a trot when running back. Spence has gone backwards in the last few weeks but it's hardly surprising as he's run himself into the ground all season. He probably covers more ground in a match than the other 9 outfield players together!

Re: Swindon Town FC (H) match thread
I think you can add the home match against Forest Green Rovers and the away match at Salford to those 2 matches. Equally as poor and all relatively recent.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 6:18 pm We’ve managed somehow to save our two worst performance's of the season for the last two games….
I said it when we played FGR and the same today, Tom White should not be starting these games when we are at home against teams that are struggling.
Rory Feely had his worst game since Canavan was injured, George Ray was poor by his own standards & Tyrell Warren just isn’t up to this level. Newbys corners, free kicks and corners were really poor. Unless Whitfield and Gotts had took knocks I can’t understand the logic in taking them two off.
At the end of the game it looked like not one of our players knew where they were meant to be (Farman aside..)
So so disappointing.
Agree re White playing at home. There could be a case for him coming on late on if we are holding a lead or in some away matches.
Unfortunately, 2 of our 3 best outfield players - Canavan, Campbell and Spence - weren't playing today and the other has just about run himself into the ground. We need those 3 to be available and fit to give any team in the league a decent game.
