Nice to see all those pitch invasions from cocky Donny fans meant nothing in the end. Lovely.
We should be playing today
Re: We should be playing today
I try to be the bigger person and avoid schadenfreude but in this case yes it was lovely to see.
Re: We should be playing today
I am amazed by that result, it just shows you can't take anything for granted. Crewe's poor form and Donny's long unbeaten run, and having lost already in the home leg, I wonder what odds you would have got for Crewe to win the tie.

Yes indeed Jim. I’ll invoke the spirit of the late Jimmy Greaves by saying - it’s funny old game.
As for Donny their run was indeed spectacular but it was not driven by pure talent. Their team is still much what it was when they were bumping along the bottom. Even Wrexham and Stockport couldn’t do that. I’m not even sure how good that Donny team really is. But well done to Crewe for finding the antidote.

I have to agree. The Donny fans have been the most arrogant set of prats for last 4 weeks. Nice to see them get brought down to Earth with a bump. And they called us bottle jobs.

People say you need momentum going into the play offs.
Well Crewe had only won 4 of their last 24 league games so that throws that argument out of the window.

That’s Football for ya totally unpredictable and the reason you have to enjoy whatever moment you’re in. Just makes it all the more galling that we appear to have missed an opportunity that may never present itself again, then again being Barrow we can only but dream.

Yes. we missed a chance of the play offs but personally I think we dodged a bullet regarding promotion. If it’s as is looking like a Crawley v Crewe final neither club will survive in EFL 1 imoBarrow afc 2018 wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 12:29 pm That’s Football for ya totally unpredictable and the reason you have to enjoy whatever moment you’re in. Stand out from this for me is Billy Waters. Already frozen out at Wrexham and derided by the fans despite only playing 82 minutes in the EFL for them, he wasn't brought off the bench by Donny despite several players cramping up towards the end. Wonder if he is now regretting putting his bank balance before his career (not of course knowing his personal circumstances). Putting my tin hat on first would it be pertinent to suggest the possibility of Pete resurrecting said career, again not knowing the full circumstances of his departure.

We need to sign better quality players than Waters. Decent footballer, but I think he will end up back in the national league next to be honest. Will be surprised if he signs for another EFL club

Slightly off topic, but absolutely great to see how many Barrow shirts were being worn at hawcoat park today at the keswick to barrow. Little things like this shown how far we've come, 10 years ago there was no chance of seeing kids in a barrow shirt walking around the town, now theres just as many as the big 6

Re: We should be playing today
My recollection was that Waters was more than happy to jump ship when Wrexham came calling. My impression was that PW saw this as something of a betrayal. I don’t think he would have him back on principle.Mark Johnson wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 4:19 pm We need to sign better quality players than Waters. IMO Waters was not good enough to play for us and I was amazed when Wrexham signed him - and even more amazed that they gave him a 2 year contract. More money than sense is the expression that comes to mind about Wrexham.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 8:18 pmMy recollection was that Waters was more than happy to jump ship when Wrexham came calling. Typical. Crawley winning it by a country mile and looking forward to their first ever trip to Wembley on 19th May - OUR date from 1990.
