I think we need a way of playing that gives our forwards more opportunities, it's easy to blame Ged Garner, Dom Telford and so on but not sure it's fair.

Re: Released/Retained
Not sure what perspective that provides. Of the three you mention two have worse strike rates of goals per game and one is better at Barrow. One of the two that is worse is playing at a higher level and the one who has a better strike rate is playing at a lower level.WillBAFC wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 5:23 pm
Couldn’t agree more on this. Very much rate Pete Wild, but we have got to work on providing for and incorporating our strikers more. To put in perspective, these are our strikers league stats both before and after joining us:
Dom Telford:
- 22/23 (Crawley): 43 appearances, 12 goals, 3 assists
- 23/24 (Barrow): 38 appearances, 4 goals, 3 assists
Emile Acquah:
- 22/23 (Maidenhead): 45 appearances, 13 goals, 0 assists
- 23/24 (Barrow): 44 appearances, 8 goals, 2 assists
Cole Stockton:
- 22/23 (Morecambe) 39 appearances, 11 goals, 1 assists (albeit in a Morecambe squad that got relegated)
- 23/24 (Barrow): 17 appearances, 7 goals, 0 assists
Re: Released/Retained
It’s all subjective. PW rotated 5 players up front over the season. 6 if you include Whitfield. Don’t think we played a game where the same pairing stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes and no one in the side got into double figures (goals or assists) we struggled to get goals

I still think PW's game-plan is to stop the opposition scoring and get one on the break. Trouble is once the opposition suss this and take the lead it is them that try to hang on to it. Our final 7 games show the dangers of this tactic.Jonty wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 10:55 pm It’s all subjective. PW rotated 5 players up front over the season. 6 if you include Whitfield. Re: Released/Retained
Agree. These stats say nothing meaningful about either Acquah and Stockton. Arguably current season stats in both cases show progress or improvement. Telford is the only one worthy of a discussion about his value to the team.Bingley Blue wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 10:04 pmNot sure what perspective that provides. The game plan is to do defend the middle third. You won’t see our strikers press from the front. Pressing comes from moving in on poor touches in midfield, hence the importance of an energetic midfield. It had us In the top 7 for three quarters of the season. Scratch the head why it derailed last 10 games.bluessupporter wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 11:06 amI still think PW's game-plan is to stop the opposition scoring and get one on the break. Re: Released/Retained
Watched highlights of the FAT. Set up the first Gateshead goal, scored the extra-time equaliser with defeat looking them in the face, then struck the winning penalty in the shoot-out. Unless Derby want to add him to their first team squad he will be a target for clubs in L2 and above for a loan move the next logical step up from the NL.SKIPPER wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 10:03 pm If we are looking at loanees one lad I thimk we should consider is Derby striker Dejaune Brown. 18yrs old joimed Gateshead on youth-loan in January his first taste of 'mens' football.Scored twice in his first two games from the bench and didn't start a game until the beginning of March going on to score 9 goals in 21 appearances. Derby boss thought enough of him to consider re-calling him because of an injury crisis but decided to leave him at Heed. As Gatesheads' chances of promotion to EFL (they still have the FAT final next week) scuppered by off=field problems Derby may exercise the usual routine of moving loanees up to the next level. A good show at Wembley may put him on a few radars.

Re: Released/Retained
Paddy Madden signs for Chesterfield; they are obviously splashing the cash
Re: Released/Retained
With an average attendance in the National League this season almost double ours in League Two, they have a level of support to help them to do so.

Re: Released/Retained
Thought the transfer window didn't open till June? Or does it not count for promoted NL teams as they technically have "no window" and can sign anyone whilst EFL clubs can't?

Re: Released/Retained
As long as a player is not legally under contract he can I think sign for any other club irrespective of the league or division. Dont know the precise details of Maddens situation but Stockport had already decided that he was not up to League 1 and were therefore in the process of running down his contract. If Chesterfield were happy to take him right now to avoid other clubs potentially being involved later on, then Stockport could with the mutual agreement of the player simply terminate the contract. In doing so they may have avoided a months wages which would also be useful.
Clearly once the contract is terminated, Madden becomes a free agent and can sign for whoever. The fact that Chesterfield dont officially rejoin the EFL until the AGM (June), would IMO become irrelevant.

Re: Released/Retained
Last Season we signed several players before the end of May the first of which was Worrall on the 18th May.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 11:14 amAs long as a player is not legally under contract he can I think sign for any other club irrespective of the league or division. Whilst what you say is possible it's just as likely that Madden has signed a contract at Chesterfield that starts on the 1st June, much like someone outside of football can move to a new job, sign a contract there and "work their notice" at the current job.

Re: Released/Retained
Yes that’s another possibility. Avoids Stockport entirely. Whether he signs now or in June is not really important. Chesterfield would simply want something that ensures the transfer takes place. Lots of options.chipmunx wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 1:21 pmLast Season we signed several players before the end of May the first of which was Worrall on the 18th May.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 11:14 am
