As noted above, at the last Q&A Tony Shearer spoke about the enhanced N American interest in English football as a result of 'Welcome to Wrexham'.

Subs are an interesting, perhaps obvious, motif. You can't imagine Canada will be joining the queue for one of the AUKUS jobs although the U/V Class boats must be ready for replacement and I believe Babcock do their maintenance.

Looking forward to the first home League game when the team is led out by NC dressed as a Mountie, riding a bear onto the pitch.

Must be my age but I’m confused. Why would a group of Newfoundlanders want to use a club in an outpost of the EFL to encourage relationship building and cross cultural affiliation with a Canadian Province? Honestly, I’m at a loss to understand the logic.

Newfoundland is crying out for skilled labour to move there. They’ll be using us as a vehicle to advertise that. I don’t think they’ll be particularly fussed about Barrow AFC per se, we’re just a foothold into a market that gets a large amount of global attention - English football.

That’s my guess, anyhow.

Hmmm we’ll have to wait and see what’s in it for Barrow. Our global reach is probably the smallest in the Football League based upon followers on the main social media platforms, so will be interesting to hear from our side what we get from this.

Newfoundland has a lot of similarities to Barrow in that it is somewhat of an outpost compared the rest of its surroundings. Its people are renowned for being friendly and full of character. Also an area of Canada oft overlooked for its natural beauty while big cities get the tourist monies.

Newfies played a huge role in diverted flights to Gander during 9/11 which exemplifies their open willingness and hospitality.

It’s an interesting relationship to Suffolk Blue’s point, but looks like it is driven by the immigration minister to entice more people to move/immigrate to the east coast.

There may also be a play in this to establish a new club/potential partnership in the recently created Canadian Premier League. Most of the clubs in it currently are where a third of the Canadian population resides between Toronto and Niagara Falls.

Who knows St. John’s FC could have The Crown North Scale on their shirt in a few years time.

What’s in it for Barrow is the question. In a mutually beneficial arrangement, Why would Barrow AFC be interested in that side of things? Surely that’s also counter productive to main employer in the area where there is a need for 5000 skilled jobs over the next decade.
We are awaiting the big reveal to see how this benefits Barrow AFC.

I would imagine this will raise the profile of both the province and our club somewhat in the media and probable tv coverage as they will be all over it. So as funny as it is from an outsider looking in it will also have the desired impact it has probably set out to do.

Are we sure that the Canadians have not confused us with Point Barrow in Alaska and are not trying to reach out to an Inuit community soon to become subject of an ice wall threat from the next President of the United States?
