Yes I wish we never had Scott Quigley 35 goals in two seasons helped us get promoted and stay up but that aside .JammyBluebird wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 12:18 pm How good do people expect our second choice goalkeeper in League 2 to be?
I'm sure there will be a large overlap with the "20 goals a season" striker brigade.

Re: Barrow v Cheltenham Town, match thread
Maybe time to give Dallas a start with Aquaman?
Seems frustrated and chomping at the but in his interview, give him a few starts and let him prove himself?
In all honesty, my only gripe with team is the attackers, mainly Telford and Garner. Yes they can score but they don't seemed committed enough or hungry enough for me, they seem to lack that real desire that a goal scorer has!!

Scott Quigley did well in his spell for Barrow.Pedro wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 2:52 pmYes I wish we never had Scott Quigley 35 goals in two seasons helped us get promoted and stay up but that aside .JammyBluebird wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 12:18 pm How good do people expect our second choice goalkeeper in League 2 to be?

He managed 20 goals in one of the 2 seasons he played for us.
That though is the only time he has ever done it in the 13 seasons he has played.
It's not a proven track record.
Not many players though do have a proven track record and those that do will be costly to get.
Re: Barrow v Cheltenham Town, match thread
It’s so often ‘Horses for Courses’ especially in the lower leagues. A striker will do well somewhere with the right team and right circumstances but then be poor at another team and vice versa.saltcellar wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 3:06 pm [quote=Pedro post_id=533628 time=1728222753 user_id

Quigley and Telford being prime examples.

Do you have a view on the marking of Bowman prior to the goal or are you simply looking at the 'keeper?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 10:38 am I thought Stanway should have done better with Cheltenhams goal yesterday by pushing the initial shot wide instead of pushing it straight to Bowman allowing him to score.
That said he is in a bit of a no win situation. In Farman we have a keeper who I wouldn’t swap with anyone in league 2. Anyone that comes into replace him would be a step backwards ability wise imo

You’d imagine Dallas gets a start on Tuesday night surely; see what he can do from the off

And when we signed him he wasn't hitting anywhere near that goal ratio, and we wouldn't have expected that return in all honesty.Pedro wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 2:52 pmYes I wish we never had Scott Quigley 35 goals in two seasons helped us get promoted and stay up but that aside .JammyBluebird wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 12:18 pm How good do people expect our second choice goalkeeper in League 2 to be?

Sometimes the player/team/coaching all falls nicely and a League 2/Conference level player will start banging goals in. E.g. Dom Telford at Newport with 25 goals in 37 games.
It doesn't happen every season, if it did then they wouldn't be available to us, and wouldn't be in League 2.

The keeper. Push the ball wider Bowman doesn't come into the equation and Feely would have cleared it awayHadrian wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 3:35 pmDo you have a view on the marking of Bowman prior to the goal or are you simply looking at the 'keeper?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 10:38 am I thought Stanway should have done better with Cheltenhams goal yesterday by pushing the initial shot wide instead of pushing it straight to Bowman allowing him to score.

Re: Barrow v Cheltenham Town, match thread
Listening to Cheltenham manager's interview saying the same about our goals both being poor just like Clemence last week at Gillingham, can fans just agree most goals are mistakes at all levels of football or do we want 0-0 results every game, enjoy being 3rd in the league.
Re: Barrow v Cheltenham Town, match thread
Was very impressed by Wyll in the several Chester games I saw last season and was chuffed to bits when we signed him,I believe in competition with several other NW clubs and regardless of the local connection. Some of the comments on here are downright derogatory and unnecessary. The jibe about backpasses could apply to numerous goalkeepers even in the PL. Since the rule change, a needless knee-jerk reaction in my eyes, goalkeepers are forever being put under pressure by badly placed passes and often caught out re-Farman for Chelseas' fifth. As for yesterdays goal it should be noted there were half a dozen Barrow players in the box at the time. How many actually made a move towards Wylls' clearance ?

Some people on here seriously need to grow up.
Re: Barrow v Cheltenham Town, match thread
And how many made a move to close down the Cheltenham goalscorer. He was stood in acres of space totally unmarked.
Unfair to be singling out Wyll Stanway as being at fault for their goal.

Re: Barrow v Cheltenham Town, match thread
I think this criticism aimed at Stanway is harsh. Maybe their number 22 who received the ball and got the first shot away that Stanway parried could have been closed down more quickly and then the shot would never have come in in the first place. He gets quite a lot of time to dawdle on the ball before getting the shot away. And guess who our player was who was closest to him? Ben Jackson, a player who I rate very highly indeed.
I suppose the moral of the story is that nobody's perfect but football today indulges in this neurotic microanalysis down to the nth degree to try and find reasons and scapegoats for every goal conceded.
If Sir Bobby Moore had been on the pitch yesterday as part of our back line perhaps he would have said the same thing to young Stanway that he said to Gordon Banks after the latter made his miracle save from Pele at the World Cup in 1970 . . . "you're getting old, you used to catch those".
Instead of having a go at Stanway maybe we should just be pleased we got the win. Whisper it, but a little of that microanalysis by me suggests Newby got away with a foul just before crossing for our equaliser. But let's keep quiet about that. Nobody say anything.

Re: Barrow v Cheltenham Town, match thread
Criticism regard Stanway is pretty unfair tbh.
He’s come in for one of the best keepers in the league we all need to realise he isn’t at the standard of Farman YET he’s local I’d rather a local lad make mistakes than a random back up keeper.
He is still a baby in keeper terms plenty of time to learn & develop at his hometown club.
