We were promised this attacking front foot style, not happened, had injuries yes but Mahoney hasn’t done it yet, we create f*k all
I feel that 3rd December the club will be tweeting the corner flag picture with a statement of relieving Stephen of his duties

Not having the travel crack, if I’m on the money Telford reportedly gets I would travel to John O Groats every home fixture for the next 2 years of my contract happily. They know exactly where our town is when they sign on the dotted line.

So does the buck stop with the head coach Stephen Clemence and his team or does it ultimately stop with the head of recruitment Iain Wood whom the board have entrusted to take us forward long term.Scott5 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 7:45 amI have to agree Russell. The forwards weren’t up to it last year and any success was built on a good defensive unit. Since then both Whitfield and Stockton have gone and been replaced by Kouyate, Dallas and you can add Kirk and Mahoney….russell_anderson wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:01 am Sometimes I can hardly believe the rubbish I see on here. People criticising our defenders when, even after an admittedly bad day, have still only conceded more than 2 teams whilst there are only 6 teams who have scored less and at our current rate there will be even less soon. Talking about formations? It not the formations that are the problem, it's the ability of the forward players!
We have Dallas, Kirk, Garner, Telford, Kouyate who wouldn't get into any other team in the league. Newby who has some ability but is weak, Mahoney who also has some ability but is slow and puts in little effort.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with our defenders and nothing wrong with our midfield that a decent creative attacking midfielder wouldn't correct but there is absolutely nothing right about our attacking options and that will never improve with the current players. We are a little better when Acquah plays as he's the only forward player with any strength and can, at least, hold the ball sometimes but however well we defend and however much possession we have we are not going to score goals with the current strike force or I should say non-strike force!
Forwards are powder puff and a defenders dream to play against. Lightweight and predictable and don’t work enough. Midfield needs to move the ball quicker at times yes and forwards but I think the lack of movement up top and wide doesn’t help.

Re: AFC Wimbledon
I think it was always a worry with the time taken to confirm that Wild had gone and to get a new manager in, that we would as a result be behind in getting a new manager in place and behind on recruitment.
It was never the intention for Wild to leave and we lost 3/4 weeks in May. Wood did some work but you’d have to say recruitment has been short overall. Resigning Feeley, Kouyate, not getting another midfielder in bar Weston who doesn’t seem to be rated, not improving the strikers and wingers. Foley was originally released but has again been our best midfielder at now 38….
Jackson has been a great signing by Clemence, Vassell is decent bar falling over but I’d argue the others aren’t any better or just aren’t as good as those they replaced. We’ve got the same midfield and attack almost as last season which wasn’t good enough then and was never likely to be good enough this time…
I would back Clemence but something needs to change soon as this is a worrying run.

Re: AFC Wimbledon
After a terrible start yesterday, and I'm sure there'll be people on here who think that's Clemences fault, I thought we battled back very well. Dallas made some good runs and held it up well at times.
At 1-1 I could only see us going on to win it but the difference was they have a striker who could find space in the box and we haven't , the amount of balls that flashed across their 6 yard box in the 2nd half would be mouth-watering for a good striker. Therein lies our problem.

Re: AFC Wimbledon
On the wingers etc wonder if it would be worth trying Mahoney as the 10; least until Garner is back fully fit
Not sure how long Spence is out for but when he’s back fit could be worth just picking him and Gotts in the middle and resting Campbell for a game or two as well

Re: AFC Wimbledon
Time to go back to 5-3-2 I reckon. Ours wingers are so ineffective anyway and the number 10 role non-existent. Works when you have someone like a John Rooney (to use a recent player for comparison). Dom Telford should’ve done well in that role, but unfortunately hasn’t worked out with him like we’d hoped.
Ditch the lone striker. It isn’t working. Try and stabilise things at the back. We need to get back to keeping clean sheets and giving ourselves a chance in games. Whilst offering more of an attacking threat with two forwards to deal with, rather than just one on his own.

Re: AFC Wimbledon
I have just watched the highlights and, although I think they concentrated on Wimbledon's best bits, we looked well off the standard one would expect. The first goal was a chapter of errors, coming from our goal kick. Canavan took the goal kick (would it normally be Farman?) then when Jackson passed back to Farman did his poor kick stem from his previous injury - if so we need Stanway back.
Throughout the first half and also on one incident in the second, Wimbledon had more than one man lining up unchallenged outside the penalty area. Then for the third goal, I think there were 3 or 4 Barrow players backing off the player who ran in and scored.
Much to worry about there!

Re: AFC Wimbledon
What is it with the last quarter of the games, are we tired or is it a lack of concentration, we have been sussed out teams now know we fall apart at the end, cannot finish teams off.

Jim,sorry pal,but I don’t want to hear anything you’ve got to say if you’re making an assessment of our performance,or the match from highlights FFS. A mix up put us 1 down, from then on we were the better team,we all know where our problem is,I’ve stated from watching pre season, but was ridiculed by some.Barrow play some excellent football, probably too much to be honest,Wimbledon didn’t play any,as soon as they won the ball they hoofed it forward, like Wimbledon of old.Unfortunately Pep would struggle to manage the forwards we have into a decent strike force, my one criticism of our manager is constantly playing a lone forward,it doesn’t work Stephen, and isn’t going to, please try playing 352, otherwise we are [SwearFilter].

Re: AFC Wimbledon
Since the Chelsea game we’ve played 9 league games and only won one of them. We’ve only scored 2 goals in one game since then, the Cheltenham win. Disappointing FA Cup exit to.
Was all going really well until we played Chelsea.

Re: AFC Wimbledon
I did say that the highlights were very Wimbledon-orientated. I also should have said that the highlights didn't reflect the game as it sounded on the commentary, which I heard in full. Nevertheless, in those 9 minutes, there were several examples of where we left Dons players with far too much space and that is worrying.Desmond2-2 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 9:41 am Jim,sorry pal,but I don’t want to hear anything you’ve got to say if you’re making an assessment of our performance,or the match from highlights FFS. Three points from the last eight games is the worrying factor. That enough is painting a picture

Re: AFC Wimbledon
Tough one but here's my team for Saturday if these players are ft !
Farman/ Stanway
Eccleston feely canavan Vassell Jackson
Campbell Foley
Spence
Dallas/ Gardner. Newby
Not ideal but we need to stabilise things and be boring for a while, we have to grind out results if Clemence and the board don't realise this we'll sooner right down near the bottom NOBODY wants that scenario!

Totally agree.. we were playing well, getting results and then the fa cup did something to us which I can't put my finger on?AugustusCorpa wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 9:59 am Since the Chelsea game we’ve played 9 league games and only won one of them. It was all good and well and having that great experience and the money but it has naffed us up big time since.
Watching Wimbledons goals, they had bodies in the box, other teams do the same and for me, we don't do that.
We have to be stronger and smarter in the final minutes of the games, we have to manage our possession and surroundings. To loose the points or the games like we have is unforgivable when it keeps happening.
Perhaps 2 up front is definitely a good for thought, at least we stand a chance of keeping the ball more of we have bodies up the other end of the pitch?
Oh I dunno, it's just frustrating and disappointing.
Got to see what clemmence can do come January and hope and pray we get someone who gives a shit and knows how to finish wether that's inside or outside of the box!
