Re: Sam Barnes
Ian Wood was appointed in 2022. The table in 21/22 makes for grim reading compared to 22/23. His appointment has been a huge success and I think the team being on a poor run doesn’t detract that. Football wasn’t much fun for the first two seasons back in the league.

Re: Sam Barnes
I think there needs to be a bit of perspective.
The progress the club has made over the last 2 years or so and since the Dunn, Jolley and Cooper era is huge. Only a couple of months ago people here were worrying about Wood being wanted by Carlisle, and now they’re questioning him entirely. That’s football when you get a bad run.
It’s obvious where our frailties lie, the manager has said this openly and I’m sure come January we will see some movement. Some of the recruitment has been good, some not so good but that’s the way at this level unless you’re a Wrexham or Stockport. Small margins and injury time goals cost us being 2nd or 3rd and everyone saying how solid we are.
The way we started at times we can do a lot better and need to find that spark again.
Midfield still lacks as we knew in the summer, we’ve not added anyone bar Weston. Wingers and strikers are as they were minus Whitfield and Stockton. The money or some at least from Chelsea has to be invested into the team otherwise the season will Peter out or worse, be dragged into the wrong end.

Re: Sam Barnes
We are a work in progress on a much smaller budget than many established league 2 sides and have come on leaps and bounds since his arrival. He's one man I'm grateful is at the club, has he gotten every signing right? No but neither do the top prem sides. A few bits of bad luck late in games and a drop in confidence in recent weeks shouldn't take anything away for what he's done since his arrival

Agree wholeheartedly the club’s progress in the League can be linked to Iain Wood’s appointment.John_Bucks wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 7:31 am Ian Wood was appointed in 2022. Re: Sam Barnes
Not sure why anyone would choose a signing like Sam Barnes to spit roast Iain Woods reputation.
You could really only sustain such an argument if either you’d spent serious money on the player or had high expectations of him. I don’t think we’ve done either.
Nice to see though that we’ve exhausted the usual suspects for rubbishing the reputation of our players and staff during a poor run of form and that Sam’s five minutes in the limelight has finally arrived.

Re: Sam Barnes
Mahoney? Kouyate? Dallas? Popov?
The Chelsea windfall is helping to cover projected losses - which I’m sure included for some action in the January window. We usually make some signings in January, no reason to expect we won’t do the same this time.

Re: Sam Barnes
Yes precisely the Chelsea funds will be reducing the projected losses. Didn’t we lose around £1.7 million last season or was it the season before ? As this topic was originally about the injury to Sam Barnes where’s Mazeed Ogungbo ? Is he also injured ?Lancaster Branch wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 1:44 pmMahoney? Kouyate? Dallas? Popov?

Re: Sam Barnes
Sorry yes was more meaning who is actually playing. I know Mahoney was injured but we’ve barely seen Popov or Dallas at least until Saturday, maybe for good reasons…Lancaster Branch wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 1:44 pmMahoney? Kouyate? Dallas? Popov?

How many other careers can you get a job and then mainly sit out the first few months? Frustrating as we’ve desperately needed a decent CB cover. His medical must have been something like
