The length of time it’s taken to appoint Hughes tells me he wasn’t their first choice.
Evatts stock is still pretty high despite Bolton dispensing of his services the same for another guy mentioned Jon Brady who recently left Northampton. For either Evatt or Brady taking the Carlisle job given their current league position might have been seen as too much of a risk for either. Ok keep them you could be seen as Carlisles saviour but take them down there stock would fall dramatically. I’m sure both will be offered jobs higher up the pyramid before long. Hughes however is 61 now been out of the game for 18 months so has very little to lose whatever way goes at Carlisle

Yep. Totally agree. It’s what a good Catholic might call a Hail Mary appointment. Made with a prayer to the giver of hope.

Not a strategic move. Evatt, Brady etc. would have signaled a bold medium term change. This smacks more of “You’re a Celebrity. Get us out of here!”.

The only issue I’ve got with that statement is that it’s been repeated many times this season.

It was said at the beginning of the season. It was said when Simpson was fired and Williamson was appointed. It was said at the beginning of the January window. And it’s now being said after an horrendous 1-5 defeat and the sacking of yet another manager. There are not too many more times it can be said before their situation must improve.

Carlisle should stay up. But they do have a significant problem.

Carlisle United tickets on General Sale from 4-30pm today, both Clubs have 4 games leading up to the match, we have Gillingham(h), MKD(h), Cheltenham(a) Crewe(a), Carlisle have Grimsby(a), Newport(a), Colchester(h), Gillingham(h), plenty of points for both Clubs to aim for wonder what the league table will look like after the Carlisle game, hopefully we can sell over 3,000 home tickets but like many have said plenty won`t be able to attend on a Thursday night at 8pm.
