I do hope young Bailey was asked first seeing as he's the current stadium announcer.

He's had nearly a season how long will it take him ,the only grip he needs is to hold the mike still and stop doing other stuff instead of holding the mike closer, he's been shown how to do this at least 2 times, we're a professional club in the EFL he's not doing a gig in a pub !

You’re clearly the expert in public speaking Nige so why don’t you come in the press box next home game and do the job, I’m sure he would welcome your expertise and guidance

Exactly. How do you think he feels seeing your unneeded and un asked for comments? Which he has btw. Way to knock a young lad’s confidence. But like Adam said, since you’re such an expert on public speaking, I’d love to see you come up to the press box and see if you can do a better job. Or even better if the announcing bothers you that much, don’t bother coming to the game at all; people like you don’t deserve to. Absolute tosser

Nige - - - I think you need to ease off in this criticism of our PA announcer, Bailey. I know you, Nige, and respect you hugely as one of our club's most loyal and long-standing supporters but I'm not going to back you over this matter. I haven't stopped to closely study Bailey's performance on the mic but, even if criticism is warranted, words such as "totally useless" are way OTT. I have no idea if he has been advised on things three times but I do know that when I was young I had to be told things more than once because nerves in a new job could be overwhelming and scramble your brain. I also know that when I was 17 or 18 (not much younger than Bailey is now) I was asked to do some public speaking but couldn't as I was virtually paralysed with terror at the prospect. Strange that I later went on to teach large classes of young adults! This just goes to show that some things, such as speaking to a crowd, can be daunting and overwhelming to a lot of young people but, given time, one can grow into these things. So, the moral of the story is give him a break, give him time, he's only young. I could not have spoken to several thousand over a mic at his age!

Who can ever say - - - Bailey might, in time, become the Keith Eddy of our press-box! Eddy got the "totally useless" treatment from the Holker Street terraces when he was a young player for us in the early 1960's but went on to captain Sheffield Utd in the top flight before ending his career playing, and skippering, New York Cosmos alongside the likes of Pele and Franz Beckenbauer!

Bailey is a very pleasant individual and he doesn't strike me for one moment as some ignorant and arrogant youngster who won't listen to any guidance or advice from anyone. I believe he is someone who will try his very best to learn and improve.

Morgs 1999, it's touching to see you sticking up for your "little" brother!

Nige, be the big man and draw a line under this. I am not going to fall out with you as I know you are one of the great and devoted followers of our club. You can fall out with me if you wish but I have no interest in falling out with you! Maybe a handshake with Bailey at the press box would be a good idea and you can draw a line under this? Leaving aside the 'mic aspect' in all of this, both Bailey and Morgs1999 are young supporters and young supporters should never be discouraged or alienated. You and I both know, Nige, that, as part of the "143 from 1973", support for Barrow AFC can get a bit thin on the ground so let's not demoralise the fans we've got!

Nige time to be humble and apologise and more so give the young man opportunity to grow into a daunting role. Daz was always going to be a hard act to follow. We all have to start somewhere, hopefully young Bailey will grow into it given time, understanding and patience..

Hello Everyone,

Ive been trying to get into my account so apologies it's taken me awhile to reply to this thread. I appreciate everybody that has shown me support, I'm not ashamed to admit that it's been difficult reading some of the comments, not just on this thread but across this forum about me and my role as stadium announcer. Whoever was chosen to succeed Darren was always going to have a tough job, and I would like to think that I am doing well in overcoming the challenge, one of the biggest pieces of advice Darren gave me was that I'm not going to be able to please everybody, I've learnt this to be true. However, I am trying my best to provide a decent service for all supporters. Those that stand near the press box will know that Mike often brings mascots to meet me and see how my role works, I've also been cracking on with my new initiative "local music showcase", nobody can say I'm not trying to make the role my own. I've tried to make myself completely visible to all supporters and I'm always open to feedback. However, what I don't appreciate is people coming onto this forum to be nasty. Nige you say I've been told on multiple occasions to not do whatever it is you think i'm doing. That's great if you have an issue with anything I'm doing, by all means catch me in the press box, preferably before I'm too busy. Or if you feel I'm not taking on your feedback, contact Alicia or Rickie at the club and they will find time to discuss it with me. I have really enjoyed my time in the role so far, however, that doesn't mean I won't step aside at the end of the season if I don't feel I have the backing of the club and supporters. I'm still a very young man who, yes, probably still has much to learn about Barrow AFC. I've committed myself some would say too much to this role this year, I've turned down opportunities in my professional career to ensure that I could do all of the home games as to not miss out on practice and opportunities to keep getting better and growing into the role. Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far and I'll continue trying my best, as I'm sure that is all that can be asked of me. Come on the bluebirds
