This is the biggest takeaway from this game for me. Just watched the highlights and both teams will have plenty more to come but there was little in it. Different styles of football, so they will look at the possession stats but the actual shots and chances in the game fell pretty even.

The goal was a shocker though, a free header and we will need to cut that out.

Thought we had a solid defence?
That back line against a young winger will be mincemeat.
Experience but old and slow
Last season we could not put chances away ,we need to be taking our chances

Well Chesterfield had 2 or 3 pretty quick forwards and I can't really think of a clear cut chance other than their goal.

Yep. Dobra, Markanday are probably two of the better forwards / attacking midfielders in the division and they didn't exactly run us ragged.

Long way to go but we didn’t take our chance in the final third again and it costs us. The play from defence to midfield is spot on but just in the final third we don’t have anything and not enough bodies around Innes for him to effect anything. Not sure 5 at the back is our best use of players

I agree but hopefully we'll set up differently against other teams or it's going to be a long season!

Not sure if this is true as I’m not that observant but my lad said that Smith had S.Smith on his shirt? If so that may suggest we are probably going to have a much needed T. Smith very soon!!

Said it the other week, why is Jackson on the right ? and from what I've seen in pre season how is Mahoney starting?

Because Whing is playing wingbacks and if he doesn't we don't have a right back!

Jackson played some of his best football at RWB last year, so makes sense to continue there. Eccleston was found out

Absolutely he did. Jackson was a revelation at right wing back in the last third of the season when we had a good run. It's the left wing back position that we are struggling with IMO. Newby just isn't strong enough to play there. We definitely need strengthing in that position. I still find it baffling Newby was given another two year contract.

Whatever people's opinions are of Elliott, every manager has trusted him in that role, so they must see something in him I guess
