Goalkeeper situation.
Re: Goalkeeper situation.
Fact is our defence is too slow. When they push up to halfway a simple pass over the top into the space for forwards to chase only leaves the goalie to beat.
He has no option but to rush out and close down the angle.
The answer is more pace in defence.

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
Sort of agree with this. Surprised that we have so many pages devoted to goalkeepers. If we were knocking in a couple of goals a game we wouldn’t be having this debate.
It’s our ageing, injury prone, and slow squad that’s the problem not the keepers who ironically are young, fit and agile. Pick one of them and stick with it. They will both make occasional mistakes. But they are both decent enough.

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
Maybe Kerr Smith was meant to be the answer; but then the other night he could barely control or kick a ball

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
We have an ageing and injury prone squad because financially we are at a massive disadvantage to most of league 2 when it comes to wages . We haven’t got the money to sign ready made replacements for what we lost with Gotts, Spence and Campbell moving on. The owners recently pumped £800k into the club. I dread to think where we would have been without last seasons Chelsea game.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 11:14 am

Paul Hornby recently said everything regarding season tickets sales, sponsorship etc is pretty much as it was.
We are basically treading water but in football terms we are going backwards and being overtaken by most others in league two when it comes to squad budgets. As unpalatable as it might sound that is the stark reality of where we are today

So you're saying that players have been brought here under false pretentions because they've all said they came here because the Manager told them we're an ambitious club?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 1:27 pmWe have an ageing and injury prone squad because financially we are at a massive disadvantage to most of league 2 when it comes to wages . Paul Hornby never said it in those terms he was talking about the top teams, he also added that there's nothing to worry about for a couple of years, then things would have to be re assessed,
I'll be amazed if our budget isn't about halfway inthe league, and if it's as bad as you're making out WHY would we pay for Booty to come here?, also Barkhuiezen will be on good wages, we didn't need to sign him because the way we set up he's a luxury that we can't afford!
Think you have taken Paul Hornby far to seriously yes finances aren't great but he's also a good business man and as usual keeps his card's close to his chest!
On the other hand, have I and others wasted our money on season tickets etc. because we're more or less at National league level wages ( re players)so expect the worst, it's just pathetic the way your quoting the way we're recruiting etc .

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
He stated last year at the Q&A we were 15th in the players budget table. He said recently the owners are currently putting in £100k a month just to keep the club ticking over. £250k spent on work that needed doing that included a power upgrade and floodlight upgrade .last year our budget was quoted at around £2.5 million Hornby recently said over half of league two are now spending over £3 million on player budgets. The owners have been having weekly Zoom meetings to discuss the clubs finances. I am only quoting what Hornby recently said. He also said Rochdale budget in the national league is eye watering he then mentioned York, Carlisle, Forest Green and then said Whing had told him what Sollihull are spending. Yes our playing budget is lower than top end National league sides that’s a fact.blue nige wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 1:41 pmSo you're saying that players have been brought here under false pretentions because they've all said they came here because the Manager told them we're an ambitious club?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 1:27 pm

We buy season tickets Nigel because we support the club. (49 years myself) . You can dress it up any way you want but financially we are struggling to compete in league 2 . Without new investment in the next two years we will struggle to keep our EFL status. Our budget in real terms in comparison to other league 2 teams is probably the lowest it’s been since our return to the EFL
The Barkhuizen signing was forced upon us when we lost the lad from Watford on loan. The Booty signing by Bootys own admission was something that was worked on for a few weeks ( apparently offered more by other clubs but the security of a three year deal secured it)

Don’t agree with this. Generally it’s the older players who attract the higher wages. There were hundreds of younger, fitter players available in the summer. We’ve gone older and taken risks with players injury records as a recruitment choice, I don’t believe it was financially driven.

If you listen to Paul Hornbys interview with AJ from the other week he spells it out regarding finances and recruitingAce wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 4:39 pm

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
Every player I've ever seen interviewed trots out the 'ambitious club' tripe! The fact is that we've lost 3 players in Spence, Campbell and Gotts who are far superior to anything brought in to replace them and I would suggest that even the limited Acquah and Pressley are superior to all of Innes Cameron, Hemmings and Walker plus Shipley and Raglan are no better than Kyle Cameron and inferior to Vassell. The only player I can see who I believe is an improvement on last season is Barkhuizen and that was only for half a match at Harrogate when he was finally (thank goodness) more or less played in his natural position as a right winger as we were actually doing some attacking. IMO the recruitment has been inept.blue nige wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 1:41 pmSo you're saying that players have been brought here under false pretentions because they've all said they came here because the Manager told them we're an ambitious club?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 1:27 pm
