Re Mike’s misty-eyed mythical makeover I am drawn once more to the era of our proposed tie-in with the NHS to provide a new Super Surgery for the local community at the Steelworks End and featuring a general upgrade and improvement of the promised land. It seemed to be our golden ticket at the time with the club even publishing the concept plans in a yearbook. The stars didn’t align of course but in a nod to ace rom-com Sliding Doors I wonder what would have happened if they had? We would have become tenants I suppose in a decent-looking stadium and in time Brian Keen would have handed over the reins to Paul Casson who might have come in with a more football-orientated investment plan instead of having to fire-fight everything from afar. That’s not the way it happened of course, and I am reminded of one of PC’s more fanciful quests to ‘find an architect who can design a new stadium but make it look old’.

I get the impression that the local NHS might also have some regrets about the way things turned out regarding the proposal as they now have to contend with a 40-year annual payment currently circa £1.5million to private developers for the Super Surgery now located at the former Alfred Barrow school. A heavy burden on the local NHS funding budget which may well have impacted on the financial viability of the ICU at Furness General. Football eh? Bloody hell!

My understanding of FGH is that they couldn't attract the qualified staff to man the facilities and they have to scale it down by moving some patients to Kendal/Lancaster.

Carries on like this - which I suspect it will - we might be lucky to have a cottage hospital. ;)

We then build a full length decent stand & concourse type facilities.

Fingers crossed.

400 million minimum knocked off his value since you posted 4 hrs earlier. It’s obviously a volatile market and really shows your true depreciation for the player unless the the initial price was set using the Barrow outdoor market index.

That bridge across the bay would help sort a multitude of problems. It would also please the Eco brigade with tidal and wind power.

Yep, PFI, the brainchild of Blair and Milburn.

Ay, there's the rub.
As the late, great Ray Wilkie said in his early days at the club; 'If you've got a five pound a week player, he wants ten pound a week to come to Barrow'.

All you have to do is look at a league table from the Football League 20 years ago. Most teams in League Two then have since had some time in the non-league: for 04-05 it is 21 of the 24 who have spent some time in non-league since then. I lose track of who's where in the National League these days but I think at least 6 of them have had time in the National North/South or lower, and at least 5 of them have collapsed and had to reform.

The reality for a modern League Two club is that their future likely includes some time in the non-league, and it's only a matter of time before we go to 3-up/3-down, which will increase that. For every Fleetwood or Burton who manage to defy the odds, there are lots of Hartlepools, Mansfields, Yorks, Bostons, etc etc. In 2045 we're much more likely to have played some seasons in the National North than League One, in my view - that's just the size of club we are.

So enjoy the Football League while we're in it, the quality of what we see is streets ahead of the football we were watching in the 90s and 00s (I don't recall earlier!). Try and do as well as we can, but prioritise the financial stability of the club over staying in this league if we have to.

I went to this meeting on the ICU on Saturday.
People can now undethe 2022 act can email Wes Streeting direct.
The CEO at FGH has left and is taking over the Lancashire and South Cumbria the very board closing us down.
Do not leave it solely to Michelle Scrogham the change in the act now allows you to contact Wes Streeting direct to protest.
The more the better.
There are lies being told.
The Trust said they offered a bonus of 30000 to attract consultants.
The Trust has now admitted it was not true.
I would have thought that Cummins would have come to the meeting but in his arrogance refused.

So we have Cummins saying people can be transferred to Lancaster.
It's been announced that Lancaster new hospital has been put back by 10-15 years , Cummins wrote in January that65% of the building were not fit for purpose

Someone has a agenda and it'd aim to find down FGH

Two surgeons spoke both from Pakistan or India.
One said his wife came to work at FGH as a consultant and he followed suit but if he had known he would not have.
We are going to see people jumping ship and FGH will become a cottage hospital.
Write to Wes Streeting to save FGH.
I would like to see how Cummins got promoted.
He closed the cancer unit at Abbey View.
Is closing dentistry at FGH.
Mental Health patiants are being sent to Carlisle or Kendal.
Other areas are being transferred out of town.

I seem to recall in the none too distant past, Paul Carson said he was employing someone to draw up plans for a new stadium and he was going to ask fans to vote on what they thought were the best proposals. Did the plans ever materialise ?

Can anyone else remember seeing the plans for Holker Street drawn up in the mid to late sixties?
The pitch was to be turned round 90 degrees with the popular side knocked down and rebuilt nearer the pond which would have been filled in.
These plans were still in the club shop in Cavendish Street in the early seventies so guessing a few people saw them

Prior to the change of the act 2022 we had to go through the MP. to lodge a complaint.
She pointed out she had it in hand but I said as we can now write directly it adds to the pressure Barrow has been let down by a succession of Labour MPs.
We must stop this happening.
Cummins is the modern day Brownshirt like a lot of accountant s.
Paul Hkrnby bring the exception
I haveq her the title of a book to read Power without Principles
