Carlisle had 3 really experienced manages (Simpson, Williamson and Hughes) last season, along with a big budget backing and still went down.
So experience doesn't guarantee success.

Every appointment certainly is a risk, look at the mess Carlisle got themselves into thinking money buys success. On paper a risky appointment, but, North west based, young and hungry with potential good contacts. Fingers crossed (again) you just never know.

Agree, this fella wont be fazed by playing any of the teams in this league. You can tell straight away in his first interview, he wont take any nonsense and think he will raise standards all round. Looking forward to seeing what we can do. It will take time but thats why we’ve done it now and he's got the window, albeit a notoriously difficult window to deal in.

Think McDonald has left the building. …Well one things for certain, we’ve tried experienced Managers and we’ve tried relative newbies and there seems to be no fixed formulas for success at Barrow. Things have got to line up on and off the pitch for success. With some quality additions in Jan i think he can stabilise things and we can climb the table. The rest of this season is all about getting safe.

I’ve just listened to his first interview and he managed to get through it without mentioning projects, underdog, quirkiness, cul-de-sacs and the forbidden phrase. That’s a good start. Think he will be determined to do well here and I think he will do well. Best of luck- Up and Away Bluebirds!

Agreed on the interview. Certainly not naive, big one for me was the understanding on the need to get back to basics first and foremost and the rest can come later. Many coaches and managers these days get overly hung up on philosophies to the detriment of winning games.

I got the distinct impression from that interview that he is a direct no nonsense no messing about type of guy.

Totally agree.
The interview was positive and north west based and connections will help.
He’s seen gaps others mentioned and if opportunities would like to bolster but focused on promote individual development. back to basics get the wins, ensure security and then build.. good luck.

He’s big pals with Luke Daniel’s & obviously happy to work with McDonald as well so seems as though the board have there yes man. Probably a fairly cheap appointment also.

I think the timing of the appointment is good...hopefully! We have a very tricky game against Bristol coming up who must be buoyant after their first victory in 13 at Shrewsbury and with the enigmatic Evans at the helm. Now the opposition face us as a bit of an unknown quantity on Sunday - lets hope that plays into our hands - we deserve a bit of luck. But whatever the result he then has two weeks before the next match to get some players in and start moulding the team into the way he wants them to play.
