For all things Barrow AFC. Keep discussions civil and fair, we're all Barrow aren't we!

I feel good about this, he's obviously made a good impression around the place and settled in well. Some may look at it as a cheap option but I have a gut feeling the board have played a blinder here, almost a try before you buy and performances have been better since his arrival. As for lack of experience he's been around the game for a very long time and captained at a much higher level than we are at. Doubt there'll be a little old barrow attitude that irks so many. I thought his interview was excellent (although they always are until things go south). Let's cut the negativity for a bit and hopefully set sail on a new positive adventure

The problem is half our squad don't fit that criteria 😀
It's OK - don't worry.

Mr. Wood will be able to advise Gally who to buy! ;)

Maybe not the manager that people expected or wanted but realistically at this time I’m not sure who else was available. I always thought Brady would be out of our reach at least financially.

There’s been a definite improvement generally in performances of late, hopefully PG can build on that now and add a few players to plug the gaps we know we have. I dare say he’ll have better contacts too maybe a couple of good loanees that he can get in.

Hopefully as well get a good crowd in tomorrow it’s a new start and see if they can get a bit of momentum going. Rovers won last time but have been on a terrible run so will be an interesting game. And at least afterwards he has the benefit PG of a break and doing some work on the training ground.

Good luck Paul and John!

Now we need a few extra players in who can make a difference.

As others have said, we need to get behind the new boss, and we will. Bit surprised to see NM go as felt, under him, things were taking a positive turn and his experience - perhaps as a no. 2 - could have been helpful. Maybe he didn’t want that though, who knows. Do we know much about Gallagher’s assistant? The Whing/Pead dynamic (two mates, similar levels of experience etc) may not have ultimately served us well, so hope there’s more balance in this pairing. As for Gallagher having played at a higher level, I really don’t think that’s necessarily a boon tbh, and can - as we’ve experienced - sometimes be detrimental. On the positive side, the Board have moved quickly, got someone who looks like a hungry, young, up & coming manager, and he’s in before the window. Said the right things in his interview (don't they all?), so let’s trust in him delivering that. There’s still a bit of a buffer between us and the relegation spots and plenty of time to crack on and get out of Dodge! As always, we’ll get behind him - welcome to the club, and up the Bluebirds!

Comments from Preston fans are very positive. Saying we couldn’t have two better football guys in charge. High praise for Welshy for his work with Preston U21s too.

Another manager without any proven record so could be good or bad. Only time will tell and nobody on here has any more idea than I have which it will be.

Well a few of our Managers have been lousy.
The guy is not like Evatt whom was a success for us but not someone I liked for his off the field activities.
Evatt was driven by the fact he had a move to Southampton scuppered by Oysten at Blackpool then let go when injured soon after.
Chesterfield would not give him the Managers job so when he came to Barrow he had a point to prove.
He was constantly chasing the money Fylde being one who looked at him and Barrow gave him a pay rise to stay.
He was driven by success to obtain more cash.

We will have to back this Manager and his assistant but he. has little experience ,they will be judged game by game.
The playing career cannot count for much,Bobby Charlton was a World Cup winner but a flop as Manager of PNE.

In our last stint in the league when we were sliding out of the league and we hired Jack Compton ex Man Utd but he could not stop the rot.

Let's hope we here a few announcements on players in and out,Innis Cameron is a candidate to be first out of the door

I agree with you about Cameron . He,d be better off retraining to be a centre half ....if fletcher can be a centre forward why not ?

Wow I really am in awe of the superior football knowledge on here, not only do some who themselves have never been in a professional football club dressing room but know what it takes to be successful but others know in advance of a single ball being kicked that the new manager who incidentally you have never spoken to that he does not have what it takes to succeed.
Maybe he might have the skill to meald a group of average players into a team of professional football players, maybe he might have the foresight to impart his playing skills into some of them, or maybe he might have the managerial knowhow to convince a group lacking conviction and confidence into a team capable of better things. But some on here have already decided he's not capable because he's never been a manager before based on the fact that they have a feeling.
Well I have a feeling that he might have a feeling that your feeling may be wrong. But that's just a feeling !!!

But this is the age of feelings. You can feel you are, in fact, a man or a woman or a cat or a football expert, that your opinions don't need to challenged, no matter how silly, that your football knowledge is far superior to professionals in the game, that the Chief Exec is solely responsible for recruitment despite that there is a recruitment team that the new Head Coach has already mentioned meeting with, (continues ad nauseum).

My feeling? fine. thank you for your concern.

Cheers Adam, he does come across as a confident manager, sounds positive with his clear message to the players, hope he does well for us. iirc when Kelly was with Whing in training, he had to make sure the players all understood what was being said at the end.
