Can we just get used to the one we have before talking about future managerssaltcellar wrote: ↑Sun Jan 11, 2026 10:37 am Could John Rooney be the future manager of Barrow?

Credit where credit is due mind, he's certainly got Mac doing good, almost looked like an old barrow performance under evett. Gave them no time on the ball, fast going forward, decent passing.. they deserved to get through no doubt about it!

Didn’t he leave because he wanted to be closer to home?saltcellar wrote: ↑Sun Jan 11, 2026 10:37 am Could John Rooney be the future manager of Barrow?

I would think he is closer to home now.
But as has been said let’s give our new manager a chance and if he does well we won’t need Rooney - or anyone else.

I don't want to come across as Buzz Killington but are we talking about the same club and manager that are in the bottom half of National League North?

Re: Biggest FA CUP upset of all time.
Where there is already a post about the FA Cup.
Re: Biggest FA CUP upset of all time.
The biggest FA Cup upset of all time? Well, for me that came on 28th January 1967 when we drew 2-2 with top-flight Southampton at Holker Street and then lost in the replay. Incredibly upsetting. We should have won, when leading 2-1 with only minutes to go. Of all people, George Smith made an error that gifted Southampton their late equaliser. And George was still upset about it decades later (prior to our tie at Middlesborough in 2009) when he recalled that moment as one of the biggest disappointments in his career.

I have just read that Martin Chivers died on the RIP page. It says he scored for Southampton at Holker Street in the famous 1967 cup tie - I didn't realise that.pjdaly wrote: ↑Sun Jan 11, 2026 1:44 pm The biggest FA Cup upset of all time? I am 'almost' sure that Martin Chivers turned out for Barnet as well in the old Conference league at Holker Street ?

Re: Biggest FA CUP upset of all time.
Mall - - - yes, Martin Chivers did indeed put Southampton ahead in that FA Cup 3rd Round tie on 28th January 1967. Have a read of the piece I have written in the "Tony Field RIP" thread and I make the poignant comment that two young stars on the field that day - Martin Chivers and Tony Field - both passed away on the same day, 7th January 2026, 59 years after they played against each other at Holker Street in that most famous of FA Cup ties.
Yes, it is also true that Chivers pitched up at Holker Street again about 16 years later at the end of his career. He was playing for Barnet but, interestingly, he played in the centre of defence for them that day.
