Re: Tonight’s Q&A
Good conversation IMO, for those that are quick to critique Wood on social media and the like it was a good opportunity to ask questions, he seemed pretty honest and disappointed as to how the last couple of seasons panned out. Before anyone says it, I appreciate not everyone can get there.
Gallagher spoke well, both him and Welsh come across as good blokes face to face.
Main takeaways for me were:
- We are 14th in budget terms.
- The risky, historically injury prone players we've signed aren't necessarily on high wages for that stated reason.
- Gallagher favours four at the back, but said tactics are one thing, having the desire to perform is another.
- Working on bringing another three in, but might end up being two.
- Stanway transfer rumours are rumours, everyone has a price as Wood put it.
- Wood understands the drop in attendances, says the main way to get people through the door is results, not just liquid football.
- Frazer was asked about engagement with Barrow rising, it has occurred at a high level but couldn't divulge too much. Interesting comment on the community stadium aspect using the York model, they only receive as a club 17% of matchday turnover. In our current ownership model, a similar setup would mean we'd have to turnover eight (8) times the amount we currently do on a match day, just to stand still (please correct me someone if I've understood this wrong).

Re: Tonight’s Q&A
Good summary that Matty, CEO also referred to an exiting announcement to be made soon. Also worthy of note was the mention of little ole Barrow to which Gally replied not on my watch receiving a rousing applause.Matty wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 10:21 pm Good conversation IMO, for those that are quick to critique Wood on social media and the like it was a good opportunity to ask questions, he seemed pretty honest and disappointed as to how the last couple of seasons panned out. A really good open, honest and informative session.
Re: Tonight’s Q&A
Lets balance the argument. Prior to the final decision to move, the York City board anticipated that to operate in the new stadium without a financial benefactor and to be self sustainable would require gates of 4000+. They averaged 6003 last season and are currently averaging 6385. They last achieved crowds of 6k plus 50 years ago.Bombadel wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 10:57 pmThanks and that’s an interesting point, hopefully puts all this, moving away from HS to some pie in the sky stadium stuff to bed.Matty wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 10:21 pm

Re: Tonight’s Q&A
Two things regarding York on above attendance point. Firstly, they have a new stadium which I presume has good facilities etc etc & they are winning.Jonty wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 11:17 pmLets balance the argument. Re: Tonight’s Q&A
It needs to be highlighted because mentioning £150k rent and only 17% made on the burger sales does not highlight that they are now operating a sustainable business model, something they weren’t at Bootham Crescent.(£60k annual maintenance bill)andyg wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 11:25 pmTwo things regarding York on above attendance point. Re: Tonight’s Q&A
Jonty..... We will not be moving grounds. It's like paying your mortgage off and then moving into a rented house. Why would you do it? We are a lower half league 2 club. We don't have billionaire owners. We live at the bottom of the countries biggest cul-de-sac and slowly turning into a contractor town who all go home in a Friday. Let's concentrate on the results and when, and if, we start filling Holker St in a regular basis you may have an argument.
We have far bigger issues at stake at the moment such as staying in League Two because if we go down I fear we wouldn't ever make it back.
Massive game tomorrow. Up the bluebirds.

Re: Tonight’s Q&A
And they have a much bigger hinterland, able to draw people from a 50 mile radius or more with quite good transport links in all directions. I don't know how long the bus takes from the station to the ground, but it's only half an hour by rail from (eg) Darlington and Harrogate, and 20 minutes from Doncaster.andyg wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 11:25 pmTwo things regarding York on above attendance point.
