Barrow v Oldham
At the recommendation of the Safety Advisory Group, following a full assessment of conditions ahead of this evening’s fixture, the decision has been taken to postpone the match against Oldham Athletic on safety grounds.
The UK is currently being impacted by Storm Chandra, and local forecast wind speeds and gusts are at a level that present a risk to supporter safety. These conditions affect not only the stadium footprint itself, but also local travel routes and the ability for emergency services to operate effectively if required.
We have seen from previous similar weather events that deteriorating conditions can escalate quickly and unpredictably. On this basis, and with safety as the overriding priority, the club has formally consulted with the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) and relevant stakeholders before reaching this decision.
While we understand the frustration this decision may cause, particularly for supporters who have already made plans to attend, supporter safety must always come first. We’ve made this decision as early as possible to avoid any supporters travelling.
Further information regarding a rearranged date and ticket arrangements will be communicated as soon as it is confirmed.

15mph winds by kick off. They’ve set the bar low for calling games off here Every other game could get called off for a mild breeze

Re: Barrow v Oldham
Without doubt the right decision. Well done for making an early call, the Shrewsbury game was bad, if tonight’s had gone ahead it would have taken it to a whole new level. Serious question has the reduction of the slag banks over the years made the ground more exposed I can’t remember watching the soccer as a kid and seeing so many matches ruined by the wind.
Re: Barrow v Oldham
Would have been a awful/repeat of the Shrewsbury game, gives us some more time to get players and prepare for the away game, could be a blessing in disguise.

Read the clubs full statement. Its not only about conditions at the ground its about the wider community as the club stated "These conditions affect not only the stadium footprint itself, but also local travel routes and the ability for emergency services to operate effectively if required."Big_Bluebird wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 12:00 pm 15mph winds by kick off. On top of that the A590 is closed from 8.00pm tonight at Newby bridge meaning a detour via Windermere for travelling players and supporters in order to get home. I wouldn't want to be travelling on those roads in this weather at nighttime.
Sensible decision all round IMO.

Decision made so we can sign some new players.. Weather is no where near as bad as Shrewsbury game. SAG must pick and choose when safety matters

All them things sounds great if the weather was bad. But it just isn’t is it. It was worse on Saturday. If you can’t drive around a lane in 12pm winds don’t travel to the game simple isn’t itMain Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 12:08 pmRead the clubs full statement. It’s no fun watching football in high winds. Good decision in my view.

Re: Barrow v Oldham
Bit of a breeze and a spot of rain what the hell is going on and where were SAG when we played Shrewsbury?
I don’t mind games getting called off but please be consistent.

I get there are other factors but those are not high wind speeds.blumooncrab wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 12:19 pm It’s no fun watching football in high winds. Good decision in my view.

Re: Barrow v Oldham
They obviously don't process a weather app because the winds are dropping after 2pm. This is a bit of a joke decision really.
