Barrow v Chesterfield match thread
Re: Barrow v Chesterfield match thread
To all those on here who have clearly never kicked a ball in their life.
Have a look at that goal on the official highlights. Canavan is running back like a three legged horse and the player applying pressure is RAPID.
Canavan plays a ball which is bobbling straight to Stanways feet. Not at an angle purely square on. This gives Stanway very little option
This is before we start on yesterdays MOM being 20 yards behind the eventual goalscorer but thats not an issue clearly.

Observations from the game
Wyll will carry the can but it could have been avoided before even getting to him
Newby was non existant, waste of an outfield player
Whoever thought taking Mahoney off for Scott Smith must have been smoking the same stuff that the match sponsors were
I mentioned to the lads before the game i thought yesterday would have been a game 2 far after the last 2 results and thats how it proved.
The 2 games before gave me hope but i still think we are gone. Will it stop me going, no! Will it stop me getting a season ticket, no! But im 40 and i dont think i will see us in the league again

Re: Barrow v Chesterfield match thread
I've watched Foleys interview and he's more or less saying we played for a point and will pick our games to push team's, much as I hate to hear this he's right we just haven't got the player's to come in and do a job apart from Mccann and Mahoney we've no flair/ creative players and Mccann can't get a game ( don't understand this I'd have him in every game)
Up front Whitfield is missing and foley more or less says he's no where near fit!
Even if we stay up we're in a mess we're stuck with a majority of these players who physically and quality wise aren't good enough!

Aye you’re right Dave on both counts. They are a solid side defensively with some very good players driving from midfield. Unfortunately mistakes happen it certainly never came through lack of effort on Wylls part.Cromwell58 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 9:26 am One of the best teams I have seen here this year, their passing in the the first half from one wing to another was excellent but did not look like scoring. Barrow keeper did make a mistake and he knows it but he got us that point at MK Dons with that save in the second half, done now we move on to Barnet.
Pick up at point at Barnet and all hope isn’t yet lost.

Re: Barrow v Chesterfield match thread
Was right in line
Canavan was struggling and Wyll seeinng that shouted for the ball.
Naz should have fouled the lad or hoisted everything in The Rezza, ignoring Wyll
Wyll then made a mess of a below average pass from Naz
Both of them I guess, with Wyll's poor execution tge fatal blow.
Cant have another of those now, we really can't. On to Barnet.

Re: Barrow v Chesterfield match thread
Very true and the lack of pace (and lack of ability!) in our attacking players is much more of an issue than that of the defenders.saltcellar wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 8:58 amSince we went to a 4-4-2 formation the last 3 games, against top teams Bromley, MK Dons and Chesterfield, we have only conceded 2 goals.Always Ultra wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 3:37 am How can people within the club not see the lack of pace in defence?
The Bromley one a free kick and yesterdaendersy's a goalkeeper error.
Nothing to do with a lack of pace by our defenders.
Having Williams and Harper just in front of them has really solid them up.

That solid defensive side has given away more goals than any of the other top 13 teams although, to be fair, they haven't conceded a goal in the last 3 matches.McMark wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 11:08 amAye you’re right Dave on both counts. Is it better for us, IF:andyg wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2026 10:01 pmWell one or both of Newport & Harrogate will pick up at least a point on Saturday as they play each other.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2026 9:52 pm Fortunately this loss hasn't cost us, as all the bottom 5 teams lost. We treaded water today. So we have still everything to play for and securing 1 or 3 points from the 1 game-in-hand could make all the difference. Our destiny is still in our own hands but we can't expect other teams around us to keep losing - they won't.
#1. Newport win.
#2. Harrogate win.
#3. It's a draw.
#4. No idea.

Draw
If we win against Barnet then we gain ground on both
If we draw it’s parity
If we lose then they don’t run away from us

Irrespective of the result the attendance at Holker street yesterday was abysmal. Four points from the last two games against the two top sides in the division and we can't even manage three thousand people for a home game against Chesterfield, five hundred of which were from the away side. The directors and the team must wonder if it's really worth all the trouble, in case you were wondering l travelled from York to support Barrow..

The team wondering if it’s worth the trouble. Give over they’ve served up absolute dross at home all season which has seen the floating fan base disappear. They’re not all going to come flocking back because they’ve won one game and drawn another45YEARS+ wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 7:27 pm Irrespective of the result the attendance at Holker street yesterday was abysmal. Re: Barrow v Chesterfield match thread
I have to agree it was disappointing. There does appear to be a worrying apathy in the town for professional sport. The rugby could only muster a crowd of around 2100 and that included a healthy following from Widnes and on the back of good results. The owners of both clubs must wonder as I do myself if the public of Barrow really want professional sport representing the town as the current attendance levels are pretty poor imo. We could learn a lot about supporting our team through thick and thin from the supporters of our neighbours in the north45YEARS+ wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 7:27 pm Irrespective of the result the attendance at Holker street yesterday was abysmal.
