I think most agreed then that whilst he made some good saves he still had a lot to learn. He’s thrown a few in over recent weeks, dunno if the transfer talk affected him. Young goalkeepers can be prone to daft mistakes remember Dixon making a few especially with his kicking before he matured and got himself a move to Bolton. Stanway will learn from it I’m sure but at times I think he’s needed taking out of the team for his own good. He was briefly until Winterbottom got injured and he was put back in.bluessupporter wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2026 7:42 pm Strange to think that earlier in the season he was being talked about as being worth quite a bit of money being sold to clubs at a higher level.
Farman was a big loss as a leader not just as a player, and I still would’ve kept him as player coach for another year, and had Stanway eased into the team. Steve evans apparently pulled out of the deal to sign Stanway and preferred their own keeper and that was a good move in hindsight for them, I get the feeling we weren’t as bothered as didn't we accept the transfer bid.
That being said if we do go down which we probably will I certainly wouldn’t point it at Stanway, there’s a lot of other things gone on over the last 18-24 months that have contributed to why we are where we are now.
