What do Accrington do and we don’t?

Post by FanzoneFan » Fri Apr 24, 2026 7:08 pm

Serious question, whatever report you read about playing budgets, it always seems that Accrington Stanley have one of the lowest in the Football League. So how do they manage to be successful, and we struggle ?

They even spent a few seasons in League One. You can’t put it down to where they’re based because our training
facilities are just a few miles away.

Can only assume they over achieve as their expectations are lower than a club with a big budget. This most likely creates a better team spirit and attitude making them a more workmanlike outfit.
Maybe we have so called superior players who think they don’t have too work hard but are too good to go down.

Maybe that’s why being little ol Barrow worked for us under Wildy and thats a fact whether we liked it or not.

That’s what’s been the biggest let down for me, all our players have on their day lots of ability but consistent failure and laziness on their part (despite working their socks off) has cost us dearly.

Here’s hoping against all hope for a miracle so I can eat my own words.

Win or draw more matches than they lose?

A footballing structure in place and consistent approach to recruitment. They're also prepared to grit their teeth and back their managers when the going gets tough, rather than make changes at the first sign of trouble. They were in trouble last season and initially looked to be in danger in the run up to Christmas this year but they've stuck to what they trust and have been fine.

John Coleman's been sacked by Aldershot - would you take him?

Whoever it is he will need to be recruited asap to get together a decent squad of his own choosing - and not players who are 'recommended' by a DOF.

No youth set up is ridiculous 6 years of academy money not used.

No foundations laid at all for our long term how does this club grow?

Do you think this board has took the club as far as it can? I agree on the youth set up. AS closed their Academy but have moved to a two year scholarship programme from 26/27 season. Surely the club must aspire to have similar things in place. The very foundations of any club. We are a one team club.
