Cheltenham Town have signed midfielder Charlie McCann from Barrow for what the Robins call a "nominal fee".

If it’s anywhere near 6 figures I’d be very surprised. Position we are in puts the player and buying club in the stronger position to negotiate, especially if it’s an EFL club. Nominal fee would suggest its covered any costs to release him and granted his wishes to stay in EFL.

He was one of the better performers last season but looking like we've got to rebuild for a non league battle. There’ll be more on the way.

Far from outstanding, but one of the better players amongst a poor squad.
Wish him well, but wont be missed.

Personally I think it is a good move if Charlie McCann doesn,t want to be at Barrow and also would have to take a pay cut.We need players who want to play for Barrow and who want to be part of driving the club forward.Cast your mind back to the team Ian Evatt built out of players nobody knew about. This was also his first time doing this and after one season which was a bit ropey something clicked in the second one.I just hope that if this coming season doesn,t go as people expect they give Murray a chance. As long as isn't disastrous I think I would be prepared to accept it. There are very few teams that bounce straight back up.

None of the squad came out of that debacle with any credit. But, did you ever watch McCann play, especially in the last dozen or so games, and come away thinking that lad gave everything he's got out there today? Far too many in the self-preservation society and he was amongst the leaders of that particular sect. That was what, ultimately, cost us our league status, lest we forget. Blame managerial changes all you want it was the players on the pitch that got us relegated. Good riddance.

This. Technically very good but lightweight and didn't cover enough ground in there not that he was the only one.
I think you can see why he was at Man Utd and Rangers he can play some very clever passes and pop up with a goal, but also why he'd dropped into non league as he tended to go missing a lot. I would've liked to seen him stay with good players around him in there but also not too concerned that he's gone, as with anyone else. Rose and Whitfield and MJ aside when they're both fit and in a good team can still be a real asset, the rest not so much.

This.

Also would like see Raglan kept as will see a better version with young legs around him.

Also, not being in a low block will help massively.

Charlie McCann scored another 2 goals for Cheltenham today.
That's 6 goals on 6 league games this season.

Just shows what having good players around you can do. He showed it at times for us but as someone else said recently he was far too deep at times, not his fault and wasn’t helped by those around him.

Did we insert any sell on fee? And what was the rough transfer fee do we know? Good move for them getting him and Stanway relatively cheaply I’d say.

We got an outright 6 figure fee for McCann - no sell on

We got a 5 figure fee with a healthy sell on for Wyll

Thanks Adam - here’s hoping it wasn’t just 100k but a bit higher into the six figure numbers! Certainly been a good buy for them.

Good on Cheltenham for picking the only 2 players we had last season who were worth buying. Although Stanway made a fair few mistakes, he had the basics of a good goalkeeper in that generally he was a good shot stopper and almost always came for crosses. His weakest area was kicking which I'm sure a decent coach could sort out.
