That's a great piece of analysis Jonty in terms of demonstrating the true nature of the challenge that awaits us. Having watched the team at Morecambe for the first time at the weekend I thought there were probably more positives than negatives. But it would be wrong to think that the NL now is the same league. There are a number of "EFL ready" clubs out there that are much further down the line than us. And they are potentially far better than some of the dross that remains in the EFL. That is the unfortunate reality of having a truly horrendous season.

It's been said on this forum more than once that it is far easier to avoid relegation from the NL than to gain promotion to it. When Adam Murray says he thinks it will be a couple of months before this squad can deliver what it is truly capable of, I suspect he is spot on. Even when we get there I think we could have some really good days but also some really bad ones. I just hope that the supporters stay with the team when things get bumpy.

Definitely need those two players decent forward and midfielder.

Need a win at Hartlepool .

Not to be pessimistic, but why do we need a win at Hartlepool? One thing we cannot afford to do is throw toys out of the pram if we aren't romping things early doors.

The key to our success with Evatt was having a brilliant creative goalscoring midfielder in Rooney. Without his (17) and Quigley’s goals (20) we would not have scored the goals that took us to the top of the table. But, Rooney was the player who made that side tick.
We have had good midfielders since- Spence / Campbell / Gotts / White all great at what they do but they didn’t score / create enough and without that midfield creativity we won’t score enough. That’s what it is needed in any side hoping to be challengers. How do we know?.. We’ve seen what is needed. Rooney was the best individual midfield player I’ve seen in my 36 years watching Barrow because he combined goals, creativity and leadership in that side.
Slightly going adrift there but that’s what a title challenging side needs.

A win would be great to kick off the season but it wouldn't be the end of the world if it was a draw it narrow defeat.

This current group along with the management look a million mikes from where we were and I do have a feeling we will do good

Some decent results, passion from the players and a desire to try and win games should keep us all happy.

An additional striker would be good so long as they are decent and not just a striker to tick a box to say we have one..

Overall, I'm actually excited for the season to start!
