Re: Barrow v Gloucester City match thread
Firstly massive credit to Gloucester; they defended their box very well and made it hard for us. Still think if we’d managed to score one of the half chances we had first half and if they had to come out and play we’d have won comfortably but unfortunately we couldn’t.
Ref genuinely terrible; not sure if it was a penalty on Lane or not but it definitely wasn’t a yellow card for diving! The second half just became so stop start there was never any time to get any real passages of play going which suited Gloucester down to the ground.
Murray’s done superb last few weeks so not giving him stick but I wasn’t sure the subs were the right ones personally; I’d have had Marriot and Ward on for Benjamin and Edwards, try and control that centre mid a bit more, seemed a big gap in there second half. And as well as Harper has been doing lately he was fairly poor today; thought Allen should have been on far sooner and on the left where he’s been doing well.
Our final ball, and crossing wasn’t anywhere near good enough today especially once Cameron and Lane came on, we seemed to stop getting balls into the box. Cameron was having to come in front of the back 4 to pick the ball up at one point. But we are still in the hat; hopefully get a good draw Monday and it will spur us on Tuesday, it’s a winnable game still

Towards the end a gasp went up when our keeper was announced as MOTM for us. At first I couldn't understand, but I was able to fathom the reasoning behind that decision once I had endeavoured to work the decision out mathematically and scientifically . . .
Our keeper had absolutely nothing to do all afternoon but in having absolutely nothing to do he did everything he hadn't to do very well. Our outfielders had absolutely everything to do and in not doing well in doing absolutely everything they had to do they didn't do very well . . .
Put the two parts of the equation together = no alternative but to make Winterbottom MOTM.
Whether you look at it logically or illogically you know it makes sense.
We didn't turn up today.
And it doesn't help when a referee doesn't turn up either.
Stop Press: To complete a frustrating afternoon, just before 6 o'clock I heard James Phillips saying on RC that he hoped for Carlisle to face Gloucester at home in the next round. Of course it was just James baiting us with his wicked sense of humour! Of course! Really???

Pitch definitely didn’t look great or play well today. Not sure what’s happened to it!behind the goals wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2026 3:50 pm Pitch is cutting up in places and players slipping a lot on top but need that first goal

looked like the pitch has been sanded and didn`t help either side, will only get worse once the bad weather comes.Gazza wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2026 6:43 pmPitch definitely didn’t look great or play well today. Shite game. Some poor passing, plenty of lapses in concentration. We were snubbed out in the final third far too many times.
They happen though. Just need to get at them in the replay.
Ref was bizarre at times, the second half was just constant blowing up.
There was a guy at the back of the Wilkie stand today who I’m certain had Cocaine for dinner.Irately shouting at everything. Did my head in

Worst referee in many a year to officiate at holker st
I cannot believe he is an ex prem league referee.
No complaints about the result as Gloucester deserve another shot at the tie
We were off it slightly Gloucester were robust and organised
Referee wow bizzare & inept
[SwearFilter]...... his mother chose the correct name

Fair result today, Gloucester were definitely up for it and out-fought us at times, pitch did look tricky, referee well out of his depth, Winterbottom mom........bizarre!!
A decent run in the cup would be nice but now we're in the top ten pushing for the play-offs has got to be priority.

Someone in the crowd for some strange reason thought he was Anthony Taylor
It was Richard Aspinall who most certainly isn’t an ex premier league official
His Mrs runs the line in the premier league that’s as close as he gets

Re: Barrow v Gloucester City match thread
That was pretty poor, not what we’ve been used to witnessing the last month or so.
Fair play to Gloucester, they defended well even if some of their tactics were….well, not great to watch, the ref fell for it all though so why would they change their game plan? The Lane incident at the end pretty much summed that ref up perfectly, it looked a nailed on pen to us yet somehow he managed to find a way to book and send ML off, baffling. Quite possibly the worst ref we’ve seen here in a long time, not helped by the liner on the pop side.
Anyway, let’s hope it was a kick up the backside for the players and they get the job done on Tuesday.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Yeah could hear him all over the popular side, tbh going by his accent he didn’t sound local, and came out with a load of sh*t like “your shaggin the ref, in bed” kept repeating the ref was Anthony Taylor and shouting “your sh*t number 6* err there’s more than one number 6 on the pitch mate.Hendoblue wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2026 6:58 pm Shite game. The Emirates FA Cup first round proper draw will air live on Monday, October 19, 2026, at approximately 6:30 PM BST on TNT Sports 1, discovery+, and the TNT Sports YouTube channel.
Re: Barrow v Gloucester City match thread
Is the replay this Tuesday I can’t see date confirmed anywhere. Hopefully a good draw and even more incentive to get through not that it should be needed!

Re: Barrow v Gloucester City match thread
As others have said, All the plaudits today go to Gloucester City, they battled to a man and their efforts more than earned the replay on Tuesday.
Yes the officiating was questionable but for both sides. We just were on the end of the biggest call of the game. The non penalty and subsequent sending off was beyond belief.
Surely we will be appealing the second yellow given to Mikey as that was just sheer incompetence.
Tuesday is an obstacle we must overcome by everyone bringing their A game from the off.
