In 2002 Mike rang the club and asked if he could come to Barrow and see where his father played, along with wilf livingstone who brought a wealth of photographs I showed him round the ground, also there was the guy who wrote his biography, he requested no publicity so it was as he requested, the mail took several pictures but can't remember if they published any but I have all the pictures but at the moment I cannot download them as I do not have the facilities, Mike gave the club a man city signed shirt and Nicky sent a Sunderland one, they were both auctioned at a club dinner I believe the man city one realised £250 don't know about the Sunderland one.

We should have a section on this board solely for old games, memories, memorabilia, history stuff. Say, pre-1979/80.
edit: it could grow into one hell of of a collection of pure gold.

I bought the Man City shirt. It was'nt £250 though.It was more like £125, it was a long time ago. It was at the Lisdoonie Hotel and I was absoluteley rat arsed (very drunk).
I was with 9 others from the company I worked for at the time. It was signed by City"s three greats at the time
Colin Bell, Francis Lee, and Mike Summerbee himself. It's been in a frame on my wall ever since. And yes I am a City fan.

I remember when those things went on sale, bloke who made them brushed off the fact he got the competition name completely wrong

The Saints certainly had some firepower up front - but we had local legend Brian Arrowsmith and his fellow defenders. They were up for the challenge, and they didn't let us down.
It's hard to imagine 15,002 - something like treble the current capacity - packed into Holker Street, but that attendsnce was beaten twelve months later when 16,850 saw us take on Leicester City.

They did have some firepower but Barrow outplayed them and one man, Ron Davies, saved them virtually single handed! I couldn't believe how we didn't win that match. In George Smith and Mick Hartland we had the 2 best midfield players I've ever seen play for Barrow.

Virtually every player a Barrow LEGEND!!!
Pilkington didn't actually play against Southampton. McEvoy replaced him with Mick Hartland for that game, with the intention of stifling Terry Paine, and it worked like a dream.
