WHING HAS TO GO
Re: WHING HAS TO GO
When we were recruiting last summer some of the L2 experts on various forums on the web commentated on Barrow getting players that 5 - 10 years ago seemed to have bright futures but for one reason or another failed to justify their potential. The main reason for this seemed to be long term or frequent injuries. That, to me, at the time, seemed to be rather a risky policy. At the moment the chickens seem to be coming home to roost. At least Wild was brave when he got Spence & Campbell in to join Gotts. I'm a bit surprised Whing has not looked in the conference more and at the top flight youngsters playing high up in the Scottish leagues. All players get injured but younger ones get over them quicker than the so called experienced older ones.

Re: WHING HAS TO GO
At this current moment in time that would be counter productive imo. The time to hear from somebody in his position is if or when a head coach departs and if or when a new one is appointedboyliegladbach wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:00 pm Be good to hear Iain Woods thoughts on the season so far as well. Agreed let’s not be burying our heads in the sand, things need addressing and whom is going to put their heads above the parapet as the silence is deafening or do we have Pontius Pilot running the show.boyliegladbach wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:00 pm Be good to hear Iain Woods thoughts on the season so far as well. Re: WHING HAS TO GO
Personally, I don't think we are there yet.
Its not all been unbearably bad over the full tenure. We can't just keep sacking folk tag lag. Or going back for the same people every time.
However, I do agree that this side could be better than they currently are, and it doesn't look like he can get his accross to them.
On balance, the cup is utterly irrelavant but the 2 after it has to improve.
And picking a manager is fiendishly difficult and akways a massive gamble.

Agree to a degree and I’m sure you would agree decisions like this are never easy Steve, but our future at this level is the important factor as I’m not sure we could survive long term dropping down to take stock and regroup.barrowaberdeen wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:29 pm Personally, I don't think we are there yet.

Re: WHING HAS TO GO
Unless Iain Wood comes out to say Whing has left at the moment he would only parrot what Whing says. Anything else risks undermining Whing and put him in an untenable position.McMark wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:22 pmAgreed let’s not be burying our heads in the sand, things need addressing and whom is going to put their heads above the parapet as the silence is deafening or do we have Pontius Pilot running the show.boyliegladbach wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:00 pm Be good to hear Iain Woods thoughts on the season so far as well. I think he is but a couple of games from that position. It’s a case of solidarity from the board or get a manager/coach in who has time to bring in players in the transfer window within budget who he thinks can survive at this level. It all eats into budgets and we have to balance the books along the way but that’s where we are unfortunately.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:35 pmUnless Iain Wood comes out to say Whing has left at the moment he would only parrot what Whing says. Re: WHING HAS TO GO
We have the players imo we need a manager/ coach who the can organise the players and the tactics to get the best out of them and one who players believe in. As much as Whing is a great guy when it comes to this squad of players he is unable to do any of those things imoMcMark wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:40 pmI think he is but a couple of games from that position. The players sadly are making that fiction rather than fact So someone is accountable and unfortunately the buck stops somewhere..Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:45 pmWe have the players imo we need a manager/ coach who the can organise the players and the tactics to get the best out of them and one who players believe in. Re: WHING HAS TO GO
Time is of the essence, if the board wait ,the transfer window will be on us !, so what happens then ,Whing carries on with these tactics and has to sign player's that fit his system, the same system that has us where we are now.The player's looked dejected just watch Whitfields interview he saying the right things but his posture and facial expressions tell a different story.
We now need clarity of how the club see the present situation we're in ,the more winless games the bigger the points needed to be safe get harder to get ,Whing is obviously struggling with the pressure now what will he be like if in a few weeks we still haven't won, if we're picking this up don't tell me the players aren't, the clocks ticking!

The supporters are sympathetic to what’s going on but need reassurance.
Re: WHING HAS TO GO
You don’t need to be a L2 analytical expert to realise we needed to address the goal scoring situation as number one priority above anything else.. I’m not even talking a 20 goal striker here. 8-10 would be nice and more than any player scored last season. You also don’t need to be an analytical expert to fathom out that teams who cant score goals are invariably going to struggle and be down at the bottom end. Low and behold that’s where we are.andyg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:19 pm When we were recruiting last summer some of the L2 experts on various forums on the web commentated on Barrow getting players that 5 - 10 years ago seemed to have bright futures but for one reason or another failed to justify their potential. "To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

Re: WHING HAS TO GO
I’m afraid Mr Whing is out of his depth. The whole season has been dreadful. There’s no confidence, no belief, no adventure and not much to look forward to . The football (!) is awful. Nobody is enjoying this except dedicated masochistic Barrow fans / yes , we have a large quota within our diminishing ranks.
No consistent style other than a boring ineffective low block . Body language is awful. Another post match car crash interview- he doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Neither do I.
Looking back over the 5 EFL seasons , we have appointed one decent manager who was effective in improving our game and our position in the league - and we managed to push him out . And he’s the only one still managing at this level - and he’s doing well. The rest have been pants. Mind we have a director of football. I’ve no doubt he works hard . They all work their socks off . Andy said so . Again and again and again .

THE NORTHERN WAY
Re: WHING HAS TO GO
If you read what I said Jonty I mentioned we'd recruited injury prone players. I agree totally we need an 8 to 10 plus goalscorer per season preferably two. Smith and Pressley didn't come back because what I've been told was money issues. So is it financial that has forced us to recruit in this way? I'm sure someone will come up with the answer on this forum.
