Did Cook actually give an interview saying he only wanted to sign for a league club etc?
From what I recall, it was the club who revealed what he had supposedly said. They wouldn't be the first club to be economical with the true during contract discussions.
Cook wanted to leave and it is pointless keeping a player who doesn't want to be there. He will/has been replaced and we move on.
Tranmere are a bigger club than Barrow and if he has obtained a significant pay rise then fair play to him. I would do the same in the same situation.

By the sounds of it he didn't. But let's not let that get in the way of folk mouthing off and sending him abuse eh.

For me Tranmere is a massive club. Great support and a wonderful stadium to be playing in every other week... That's a really big draw, even without the money side of things.
But what Cox/Casson is building here could be the stuff of legend. The team that get's us promoted back to the football league will remembered forever round here and being a part of that I hoped would keep him here. He's walked away before, he has now again. Good luck Andy but you won't become a legend there, just another player.
Onwards and upwards.

Awful, one-dimensional player.
Did nothing special when Lincoln visited Holker Street this past season.
Money could definately be better spent elsewhere on a more mobile, pacy player.

To be fair Cook was never the most mobile of players and often ran like he was dragging a scrotum full of horseshoes. He put the effort in though despite his lack of pace. Whoever we bring in to play along side Hannah will need to show that same commitment. There's definitely someone out there, probably cheaper than Cook, who can do as good a job, be that Rhead or someone else.
Sad to lose Cook to a team on our level, expecially as we'll no doubt finish above Tranmere this season.

So
Farewell then
Anew
Andrew Cook
No more’ll
Your goals
Get us off the hook
Up front alone
You stood tall
Though not the fairest
Of them all
‘I want to play in the football league’
Yes
That was your mantra
Contriving comebacks
Like Frank Sinatra
But
Tranmere R?
Grimsby T?
Mayhap I have
Bad news for thee

I always thought cook played better when not under too much pressure to do well - the pressure at Tranmere will be immense - good luck and good bye - yes there are a bigger club in a bigger and better stadiums but at the end of the day they are still in the same league as us -

We have Bennett and Hannah who I believe are fairly mobile. Perhaps Cox is looking for battering ram to 'complement' them in which case Rhead would fit.

Really can't blame him for the move in itself. Tranmere are a massive club at this level, and to be able to play in that stadium every other week in front of 5-6k fans is a no brainer. And we really can't take the moral high-ground over players moving clubs for money, given the signing of Ross Hannah.
It's the stuff about not signing for another Conference club and wanting FL football that gets you. Why come out and suggest that stuff, the first bit clearly isn't true having signed for TRFC and the second bit can't be true either given he's given up on that goal with still over 6 weeks left to find a FL club... Clearly using us and our contract offers for nothing else than to to try and leverage more money elsewhere.
Not sure on what basis people are suggesting we'll finish above Tranmere next season. If they have a budget if £1.1million for wages they'll be getting some very good players in, Brabins no mug and Cook will score a lot of goals again. I fully expect them to be up there. So far we've signed a good goal scorer but also lost a good goal scorer, and two un-knowns.

Just to wind up nosey Tranny fans... Shush!
Although they were shite last season so we could run them close in all seriousness.

What a disaster - for Andy Cook!!
For Tranmere read Grimsby- Big Club, Big Support, Big Ambitions & Big Pressure can he handle it all? No, he'll be bench warming or sat in the stands come January.
OK he scored near on 50 goals for us in the last two seasons but he needed + 400 chances to score those goals.
With the signing of both Hannah & Bennett and probably another striker to come in, may be Cook thought he might struggle to get in the starting eleven.
I honestly believe that if Coxy had better options available last season up front then Cook wouldn't have been in the eleven, you could see how frustrated Coxy would get at the number of chances Cook missed.
Enjoy your stay on the Wirral Cooky, but don't expect to come back here again with your tail between your legs, we will have moved up & on.
By the way do you know that Tranmere are not in the league anymore.
