New Manager
Re: New Manager
I just hope a lot of thought is put into the next appointment and we don't just go for some Liverpool/Manchester based bloke who is effectively going to manage the club by remote control (ie only coming within 100 miles of the ground on matchdays).
It's an opportunity for the club to take a change in direction by appointing someone with a view to the long term rather than just getting some short term results whilst trundling down the same tired path.
I want someone appointed who will move training closer to home, which will allow the best young local players to get involved with the first team.
If we just appoint some common or garden manc/scouser who has had some fleeting success for a couple of seasons, nothing much will change. We'll still basically be parachuting tosspots in from all corners of the North West who are here today gone tomorrow.
That wouldn't be enough to reignite my interest.
If Meechan wins on Saturday and Tuesday, I could see this board giving him the job, which would not be a good decision IMO.

Gavin would make a good Time Lord and Helen an able assistant!barrowfan wrote:BK on RC just before said they'd already had a couple of applications and would be taking their time to consider anyone that puts themselves forward. Also said that Meechan was a very ambitious young man, indicating he would be interested.
What about Gavin Skelton as player-manager? Apparently before he left he said that if the job ever came up he would be interested. That could be a cracking appointment.

I'm no expert on non league, but I think a different sort of approach might work, eg not Bayles/Gary Brabin type.
However, John Coleman would be decent if interested.
A left field choice might be Matt Henney but I suspect it wouldn't suit his job- and could we move training? It will likely be someone based in the areas of the playing staff, which has always been our Achilles heel. If we were to go nearer home, say even Lancaster/Kendal for training and try and connect more with locals, we would all have to buy into a season at least of even more squad upheaval, but that could be the right thing to do.
Skelts is a great player and great bloke, would be more of a gamble than Matt Henney right now but maybe..

Re: New Manager
John Coleman would be a great appointment. He's the one I'd like to see take the job.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.
If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Ian Bogie? Did a good job at Gateshead and didn't really get much of a chance at Stockport.

Apparently among the front-runners for the Bury job along with other intersting applicants including Gary Flitcroft Shaun Goater and Efe Sodje.Eric Cartman wrote:John Coleman would be a great appointment. He's the one I'd like to see take the job.

Re: New Manager
3 candidates such as Henney, Edmo, or Skelts would as already mentioned have the dilemma of geography. Saying that long term the training, set up etc cannot continue miles away from the club. This would at least give the option to give any locals a fair run.
I do however believe we need someone with experience to steady the ship. Tempting to give some young, inexperienced fella a go we need stability and someone to guide us to the dizzy heights of lower mid table.

A young kid mad keen on football used to come to my house when I lived in Coniston. He went on to be a professional footballer, and a good manager at our level and with limited resources. Darren Edmondson is my choice.

Based on what? He's doing a dreadful job up the coast at the moment.MDC1958 wrote:A young kid mad keen on football used to come to my house when I lived in Coniston. That would be as bad as appointing Meechan IMO Edmondson has been shite up the coast and long may he stay there.MDC1958 wrote:A young kid mad keen on football used to come to my house when I lived in Coniston.
