Because we are quick to point out players who are being paid by our club(albeit paul casson) about their performances etc. so as an assistant manager being paid the same rules apply! or would you rather not have one and save money because you obviously don`t think they come into the equation!
Re: Meeks
Meeks was assistant under the less successful Bayliss. Stayed on when Edmo took over and we had a successful spell. So is he bad or good? He wasn't the man in charge in either case.
The recent poor run has been laid squarely at the feet of Edmo, although Grand correctly pointed out in his interview on BBC RC sports hour that it is really the players that determine how the manager lives or dies. No one on here would have a clue about how well Meeks has done his job, his contribution is unquantifiable by any of us.
If Cox is happy with him for now then fair enough. He might replace him eventually, I'm sure heads will role if things are don't go well. Cox seems like a no-nonsense bloke who knows what he wants, the type that usually wins things and come across as rather ruthless at times. Pretty sure he will get the best out of Meeks or show him the door, maybe both.

Edmo was the manager, hence the whole Edmo Out/one month for Edmo etc... He was making the decisions on tactics, substitutions etc - what authority does an assistant manager have to override those decisions? Absolute zero.
An assistant manager or a coach or a physio or a waterboy, their "performance" isn't judged by results on the pitch, it's on whether they are doing the job they are paid for.
If the boss in any company makes a stupid decision, loses the company money, performs poorly at whatever their given task is, are you saying their second in command should always suffer the same fate?
