I know he's been an assistant at Championship level but this league is a completely different animal!

Under this current ownership, I've never known it to be so quiet.. normally pretty good and get a statement out whether good or bad..

Re: Barrow v Salford City, match thread
I hate watching Barrow on the TV - much prefer to be there. However, I forced myself to watch the whole game - and just knew it was going to be 2-1 to them. It was interesting experience but very frustrating at the same time. I also agree with a number of points others are making. Their winning goal looked a little odd to me. How did it end up in the middle of the net? I will go with those who here there and maybe had a better view than I had that Stanway's positioning was all wrong. That does appear to be the case. Worryingly he does seemed to have gone backwards recently a mistake at Accrington positionally again, poor punch at Wigan for their first goal at fault for Tranmere's first goal in the game at Holker St. Plus his kicking is to say the least inconsistent. In a second half we generally dominated he put Williams under a lot of pressure leading to his booking because of his kicking. (They also hit the crossbar from the resulting free kick - which was the only time they threatened before their goal).
So what about the rest as I set uncomfortably in front of the TV. I thought Salford were much the better team in the first half. Our passing was sloppy, bad marking down the right led to a good finish by them. However, we are resilient and I do like the look of Fletcher playing as a mobile forward (it certainly helps Gordon) & it was a really well placed header for our goal. Thought in the last stages of the first half we were getting more into it & this continued into the second half where Smith hit the crossbar from a sweeping move.
I said to others watching we always concede in the last 10 mins as the clock ticked 80 mins - queue crazy substitutions (not for the first time under MacDonald) then on one of Salford's rare breaks we leave ourselves open at the back 2 on 2 against fast players - so stupid in this situation when we could easily have been happy with a point & more importantly break our home losing sequence. Their rapid forwards, as expected, did the rest. Sure we didn't deserve to lose the game but we did.
Where does this all leave us? Frustrated is probably the answer.
I was bored watching Whing's teams & although we are more adventurous now we are very sloppy on the ball. Shipley in a major culprit regarding this. Only once did we get on the end of either a Whitfield or Jackson cross, who is quite effective going forward on the left, and guess what we scored! We need to look at our discipline as well - I think that's 6 sending off's this season already and Canavans last one probably cost us today as he does add stability - but has also become a liability. A crowd of just over 2700 is pathetic but not surprising. As for a new manager, like others, I don't think MacDonald is the guy but we really do need to make an appointment before the Bristol game. Who, of course, have just notched up their first win since god knows when today.....great.
Lastly I hate Salford - we never beat them - at least we have got the better of Harrogate on the odd occasion.

Re: Barrow v Salford City, match thread
The last game we won at Home was Sep 20 (v Crewe) which means we've gone through the entire 3 months of Autumn, Sep 21 - Dec 21 without a home win. The last time that happened was 1970-1971, some 55 years ago., when Don McEvoy was Manager and we finished absolute bottom of the 4th Division in 24th place. We were relegated the next year. Our winless home streak has now been extended to Jan 01. If we don't win v lowly Bristol on Sat. we'll be heading for our all-time home winless streak of 126 days (next home game Jan 24 v Crawley) and could be facing oblivion. Happy New Year everyone!Cokey wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 5:52 pmColdest day of the year!![]()
Possibly why Stanway didn’t save their winner. I was right behind it and a good keeper would’ve kept that out. His kicking was all over the place too. Apart from that, I’m sure he’s Championship standard!![]()
Frustrating to lose today, as we were much better, just the same old mistakes costing us yet again.
ONE HUNDRED AND THREE days now without a home win in the league. We need to end that streak on Sunday!

In our position a point today wouldn’t have been too shabby against a top 7 side. He’s tried to win the game late on with those subs but it’s cost us dearly. He’s left us too light in midfield. In game player stats had Fletcher and Harper as two of our best players on the pitch.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

Trouble is because we're short on defender's we couldn't move Williams into midfield we had NO midfielder on the bench how the hell are we supposed to compete against teams with a squad like we have it's at best embarrassing, ffs our board need to wake up and get decisions made on management and recruitment a.s.a.p. !
