If my memory is correct didn't he have a pre-season trial with us several years back ?

Yes. He went on to be a decent player to, although suffered with injuries.

Promoted to media liaison, perhaps?

We couldn't sign him due to Transfer embargo we had a few under Bayliss. He ended up going to Flyde then onto league good player

James Wilson also from Vale surely worth a gamble?

Adam Temple will probably know a lot about Wilson from his days coming through the Man United academy where he was "very highly rated", so that is one signing that would not be a big surprise

Was offered reduced terms at the Vale. He was the top earner there but injured quite a lot. Barrow would need to break their wage record to get him.

The last two big bruising, prolific scoring strikers we've had in recent years are both likely to be on the market this summer. As top scorer in L2 one will be way beyond us and will probably holiday in North Wales hoping to catch someones eye.The other is something of an enigma having lost his way in the last couple of years. After helping Stockport back into the EFL he was amongst others the scapegoat for their poor start and new faces were brought in.The outcome was a loan to a team who were finally relegated. How much of that was because or despite his efforts who knows. It could well be that he is regretting his move from HS (grass isn't always greener etc). Not advocating anything before I get shot down, just putting it out there.
Finally lets not forget we have a striker signed for a record (no I still don't believe it) fee. He came lacking match fitness has had injury niggles and finished the season in a listless team playing without some belief. One would hope that a summer break and a good pre-season will see us starting next season with a completely new and improved version.

Even if he gets back to match fitness and steers clear of the injury niggles-he's just not aggressive enough I don't think.

Genuinely think we’re an centre half, full back and an Andy cook away from competing for the top 6/7

You may think otherwise had you seen a typically Cook, sulky, can't be bothered chasing down defenders, everyone else is at fault, performance yesterday.

What about lack of creativity in midfield ?
