Does anyone know how may players whose contracts have expired have signed new contracts for next season ? We definitely need to hit the ground running otherwise we will be left behind,with the likes of Wrexham likely to break the bank in their push to get to division 1 next season.

Canavan earlier in the season extended his plus Gotts and Farman. Wild said on Radio Cumbria that they were well down the line with targets and he was hopeful of a couple through the door early in the window.

OK this is just a bit of fun for the close season but this is my take on where we are contractually as of today (2nd May). I’ve added my own views and I stress they are only my own views on what I hope/think might happen in the coming weeks. I assure you I have no inside knowledge on what is happening. Be interesting to see what others think might happen.

Out Of contract

Patrick Brough – still like to keep but s others have said he seems to be on his way, been a good servant for us
Mark Ellis - release
Sam Foley – hopefully keep as we need his experience in the midfield
Josh Gordon – would like him to stay not convinced he will
Joe Grayson - release
Josh Kay – big question mark here I like Josh but still feel he is only a squad player. Offer him a one year deal?
Josh Lillis – Hope he stays as coach but feel he should be third choice keeper
Scott Maloney – release and find a keeper (if it is affordable, to push Farman next season)
David Moyo – release not really L2 standard
Solomon Nwaboukei – Keep but does he want to stay? May depend on how Woking do in the play offs.
Benni Smales-Braithwaite – Keep I rate him. Can see him going out on loan again if he does stay but that loan should then be to someone in the top Conference division
Jason Taylor – Hopefully stay on as coach may play the odd game because of injuries seems to be a good club man
Tom White – I feel our midfield is very “samy” depends on what happens to other midfielders his ceiling is really on L2 level I would offer a 1 year deal
Pavel Zuk – Keep but like Benni should only be loaned out to a National conference side to help develop his career – 1 year contract

Harrison Neal – I know Wild wants him think he is worth a contract if he wants to come here but have feeling he will want to test himself at L1 level, whether he is good enough for that level is another story
Jake Young – return to Bradford not done enough imo

I know we have Garner on a contract, but we need to see a lot more from him next season to justify his billing when signed.

Regarding Josh Kay, definitely would like him to stay. He offers something different (and sometimes unpredictable) whether he is a starter or an impact sub.

Yes I’d forgot Bennett was on a deal till 2024. I suspect they will try and shift him.

Statistically the most important players for Barrow-
- Josh Gordon - top goal scorer and most MOTM - think we would all love him to stay.
- Ben Whitfield- way out in front for assists. On contract so hands off.
- Tom White - top stats in the team for successful completed passes - 74%- goes unnoticed but that is impressive.
- Most aerial battles won- George Ray
- Most games played and Minutes on pitch - Niall Canavan. 45 appearances and 4050 minutes

These are the players we need to try and keep hold of and improving around.

Agree Jonty. When all is said and done the conclusion you come to is that we will try and retain the bulk of what we have once you have removed the obvious candidates.

Those looking for a significant turnover are likely to be disappointed with the primary aim being to retain what we have then fill in the gaps with quality if possible and as we all know address the elephant in the room - goals. Pretty much what you’d expect from a team finishing in the top half of a division.

Therefore the process of recruiting will probably be dependent on how well the core squad is retained. I think PW probably already knows or at least thinks he knows how this will pan out. We’ll probably see in his level of public frustration how accurate he is.
