Itll be a bit rubbish if we didn't advertise the job and see what sort of people were applying.
exactly a former member of this forum, as usual the club haven`t explained if this is a permanent position or not!

It just does not make sense if it is permanent, what about cox living in nottingham?o.k. yes he got promotion but backed by a man who has 10 times the money paul casson has, a bigger fan base, better catchment area etc, unless he`s coming to live here i think logistically it will be a nightmare,we should (i hope) be looking for someone based in the northwest , we need players based around this area or we will end up with more anthony wilson`s,we have to do this until we as a club have the infastructure to move players here.
I'm sure the terms of his contract will be explained once he's signed it - according to radio Cumbria later today

I doubt very much that John Radford the Mansfield owner has 10 times the money Paul Casson has.
They are both multi millionaires.

Most reports seem to indicate he plays shite football, which is the main reason Edmo was binned off. Cant wait to see Geohaghon in the famous playerlayer shirt.

I think we're doing the right thing getting someone in asap. I see no reason to have advertised it, the way football works any out of work manager knows what jobs are available they don't need to see them advertised.

The fact Cox is Nottingham based is the only issue I see but surely he's going to re-locate. Most full-time football managers will go where the work is, I can't imagine he was living in Nottingham whilst managing Torquay.

A decent appointment in my view. Knows what it takes to be successful in this league. Of more interest at the moment is what happens with some of these players when Cox comes in, if he wants to bring his own people in then we're surely going to have to ship some out first.

It seems to me that, if it IS Cox, then for the first time in a good long while we are moving on with a manager who has proven experience and success at the level we need. I grew weary of hearing/reading 'young manager', 'learning his trade', 'gaining experience' as we have had with the last few appointments (I'm actually struggling to think of the last manager we had that came with the experience already).
We are not here as a training school for managers and coaches. Nice guys finish last also is not just an old wives tale. Let's have some discipline at the club instead of being mates with the boys and (previously) holding card schools etc...
If we can afford to get in the people who have been there and done it before then I am all for it.
I hope the Paul Cox story is true and I welcome him.

So the fact the Mansfield forum is saying he doesnt play decent football isnt an issue? Despite our last manage being sacked for doing the same thing?

I thought that Geohaghon always followed Mark Cooper around as well? Maybe he prefers Cox, who knows?

We have seen it on many forums though a former member of this forum.
How many players have left us to the cries of he will never make it. Dont know why they went for him and vice versa for players we have signed.

If cox is the man lets just give him the chance like we have done for all people who have come in in the past and take it from there

Remember when Edmo came to us and Workington fans invaded here like some sort of WCW/ECW alliance and told us to expect terrible route one football and carlisle based rejects/loanees?

Not for me it isn't no, I don't expect us to play fast flowing attractive football all the time. What I do want to see though is us play with a bit of purpose, heart and look like we have some kind of vague idea of a game plan. All of that has been lacking recently.

Agreed, the attractive football stuff is all myth and illusion. Fast and accurate is what is needed. I remember in Kenny Lowe's days losing at Alty and someone on their forum said Barrow passed the ball beautifully but Alty still won! From what I remember of two games I saw at Mansfield, they played fast and accurate, but away from home they were able to 'win ugly'. Sounds about right to me. Surely the key thing is that Cox is an experienced manager who has won things at this level.

Anyway, far too much speculation, let's see how it pans out.
