Gala Day - and the damage to the pitch
I realise the Gala Day brings in much needed income to the club but having never been can someone enlighten me. Is it held on the pitch ?
If so, I hate to imagine the damage it could do to the playing surface if it's held on a wet day.

Re: Gala Day - and the damage to the pitch
It has always been and it shouldn't be IMO. It isn't good for the pitch.
This year I wonder if it's held up maintenance.
I really like the kids/community etc using the club and fair play to the organisers but I really think they should either move the date to much earlier in the summer or not do it on HS.

Be doing a little write-up on the GMA thread later about this. Don't think it'll answer the question posed in the OP though.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Gala Day - and the damage to the pitch
Let's just hope then it doesn't rain that weekend because I hate to think how it could effect the pitch. A worthy event, but it's being held at the wrong time. It should be held in the week after the season finishes along with all the Junior Cup Finals
Re: Gala Day - and the damage to the pitch
This should pose no problem for our groundsman, who I believe also does the pitch at Fleetwood.
I wanna take you to an Away Bar

They are only starting on the pitch this week! So whoever made this decision should have a rethink! For the sake of a few quid we risk wrecking the playing surface hate this statement but"tinpot!)
We have experts from Liverpool now sorting out the surface what will they make of this? (if they know!)

I'm fairly sure he don't do fleetwoods pitch and is an avid AFC fan and a top blokePRR wrote:This should pose no problem for our groundsman, who I believe also does the pitch at Fleetwood.

Re: Gala Day - and the damage to the pitch
the gala day is on sunday 22 june the date is the only free date in the carnival days for the furness area and as it was the date of the defunct barrow carnival. should the weather be of the wet kind then the event is held indoors. it is unsafe for the kids to dance on wet boards. the damage to the pitch is nothing comapired to a football match being played. the only damage it see's is people sitting/walking around the pitch. any vehicular access is on the sides away from the playing surface so no damage their. hope this clears up any misunderstandings.
RE- the groundsman
the groundsman from fleetwood did one at the end of 1012/13 season leaving the job to Gareth. so nice to see you are so well informed on all things barrow afc !!!!!!!!!!

Re: Gala Day - and the damage to the pitch
If we really are aiming for a top class pitch then i'm sorry- These galas are going to have to stop. June is the time of year when new seed will be germinating, it should be being watered daily so the seed doesn't dry out and certainly not being walked all over and driven over by ice cream vans for galas.
Groundsman will be doing his nut.

I. Would rather have the experts view of what damage could be caused to the surface of the pitch! Rather than yours (Anthony) or any lay persons view sorry if you are offended but they are the professionals!

Re: Gala Day - and the damage to the pitch
Apparently next year there's going to be one week's grace after the season ends for any local matches and then the pitch is going to be off limits and BLITZED. Full make over by experts that do the Premiership clubs pitches.
Re: Gala Day - and the damage to the pitch
so very sorry Mr Perfect. when questions are asked please try to ask them direct to the experts. i agree i am no expert on pitches Mr Blue but i have been present at every gala day held at Holker st, so i can say for a fact that there is NO DAMAGE CAUSED TO THE PITCH dear boy. and no i am not offended hahaha. how can anyone be offended by a keyboardblue nige wrote:I.
