Smoke bombs and flares
The carrying of flares, smoke bombs or other similar devices and their use inside or outside the ground home or away will not be tolerated by Barrow football club. Such items are illegal and the club could risk hefty fines or fa censure.
Anyone found to be carrying these items will be subject to a minimum of a season’s ban and the risk of prosecution.

CEO Barrow AFC

If that is an official statement then it should be spelled correctly.

The message should be posted on the club's web site. This is a forum for fans. If someone wants to put a link to the article or to quote it then fine but this forum is not a mouthpiece for the club.Gasser wrote:Does it really matter?xerxes wrote:If that is an official statement then it should be spelled correctly.

I don't like these smoke devices any more than the next person but I'll be damned if this forum should be used like this.
It all comes 'round again.

My 'does it really matter' was more in reference as to the fact something may of been spelt incorrectly.Nigel Bamford wrote:The message should be posted on the club's web site. Isnt the point of an open forum so that people may post what they see as relevant,if that be the local tramp, club official, the queen or good god himself isnt a factor.
Chill your beans fella, today is a happy day!

Does it matter? Nope.
It's a useful way of communicating to the fans. I bet more people access this site than the official website.
Some people love a moan at literally anything.

The point of the Unofficial Forum is that it's not under club control/censure/moderation, the idea is not that the club can't get involved or to prevent any official input. They've got as much right to post here as the next man.
Although I agree that the place for this is on the main website, with perhaps a post here linking to it for discussion.

I can understand that it might not matter to someone who doesn't know the difference between 'of' and 'have'. But to the outside world, bad official communications make the club look tinpot. I'm sure Mr Casson would not want that.Gasser wrote:

I concede that I should have said 'If that is an official statement then it should be spelled correctly before it appears on an official channel'

You could also argue - if pedantry was your thing of course - that the items aren't, by definition, 'illegal'. Inappropriate usage/Misuse of items if anything. I'll put to one side the punctuation errors, particularly the lack of commas, and the case concerns. For what it's worth, I think a link to a statement on the official site would have been preferable.

Why bring these devices into the ground? - it's just not worth the ban. unless you want to miss football for the next 3 seasons.

Thank god for this post, with one thing and another there were some with nothing left to winge at this week. Praise the Lord for less than perfect grammar and differing opinions on forum content.
Next week......should the GMA team use 5 x 40 or 6 x 50 screws for attaching cladding. Tempers will flare......
