Ollie Banks signs contract

Barrow star Ollie Banks has ended speculation surrounding his future by signing a new long-term contract to stay at The Dunes Hotel Stadium.

The midfielder’s brilliant form for The Bluebirds during the first half of the League Two campaign has seen him smash 10 goals in all competitions to draw interest from other clubs.

However, Banks has now moved to reaffirm his commitment to Barrow by putting pen to paper on a fresh two-and-a-half-year deal to remain in Cumbria.

The 29-year-old joined The Bluebirds from Tranmere Rovers last January and has since developed into a real fans’ favourite thanks to some influential performances in the heart of midfield.

“There’s been interest in Ollie, but we’re absolutely delighted he’s decided to stay,” said boss Mark Cooper.

“I think it shows a bit of ambition from the Club to make sure we tie up one of our best players and his performances this season have certainly warranted the new deal.

“I have always liked him as a player whenever I’ve come up against him; he’s very good technically but the fact he is 6ft 3ins and really powerful which also helps.

“When I got to the Club, I didn’t really understand why he hadn’t been a regular, but he was always going to play for me, he’s performed well, and he’s been a leader on and off the pitch.

“Hopefully the fans can continue to get behind Ollie and the rest of the team and we can really kick on now.”
