Iain Wood Appointed As Sporting Director

The Club is very pleased to announce the appointment of Iain Wood as Sporting Director with immediate effect.

Iain will be responsible for all on-field activities in collaboration with our First Team Manager, including player development, retention and recruitment, provision of training facilities, medical and support team liaison and the football analysis team.

Iain has spent the last 15 years in player management with extensive experience and networks in the Premier League, EFL and the National League. He has considerable knowledge of building Club player development functions, previously working with the likes of Chris Wilder and Alan Knill. Latterly, Iain has run his own successful agency and is based in Leeds.

“We are delighted to welcome Iain as Sporting Director,” said Chairman, Paul Hornby

“He brings an enormous amount of experience and energy to the role. His work ethic and collaborative approach are just what the Club needs as we look to become more established in the EFL. He is already fully engaged in the recruitment process for our First Team Manager.”

Iain added: “I’m excited to take this new role and I will bring 15 years of experience and success navigating players and managers in these Leagues.

“I will guarantee that I use that experience, knowledge and passion to help the Club make the right decisions on and off the field.

“We have a great opportunity to create something special and sustainable here at Barrow AFC and I understand how important the team is to the fans, town and community.”

Hence why Brown did not sign. Everything he said sounded like he wanted to do…..as an old style manager used to do. Maybe he was not happy that the board were looking at the modern day approach to let him concentrate on the team and tactics.

Could this be the reason the Accademy was suspended, because the whole club set up is going to be reorganised from the ground up,putting it on a much more professional setting ,something that has been lacking since we came back into the football league two seasons ago.
Hopefully we will now get a young manager who wants to devote his energies to improving the clubs fortunes on the pitch and by doing so will increase his own profile.The only thing is if we do manage to find another gem akin to Ian Evatt who proves to be successful we may have a job keeping him.
I certainly now feel mire optimistic than I did a couple of days ago when it looked like we were about to stagger from one crisis to the next.
