And we're off!!

Many thanks to all who have entered the competition (29 entries). Not many predicted a Scotland win in the opening game against hosts Germany on Friday night, but no-one predicted the demolition that happened.

Also, a strong start by Spain in what is considered to be the toughest group.

Very early days, and Frank Boddy is our early leader.

At last, a positive start to a major championship for England, and after watching Denmark v Slovenia, it is hoped that England won't have too many problems in the Group stage. Famous last words!!

Netherlands left it late against Poland in Group D before the pedestrian game between the Danes and the Slovenians.

Still very early days of our predictions competition with plenty of points to play for, our leader board looks like this.

Well, well, well!! First shocks of the tournament from Group E. Ukraine and Belgium were probably the favourites from that group, and both lost their opening games. Joint favourites, France, were also pushed close by a very impressive Austria. Netherlands and Poland will have taken note of such a good performance.

Just the 2 games yesterday, and one I think surprised everyone was the Turkey v Georgia game. Very exciting game for so early in the tournament by two teams who were expected to be poor compared to the other teams. Had to feel sorry for Georgia conceding the third as the threw everyone forward for an qualiser including the goalkeeper.

Our leader board has become a little more spread out but still loads to play for. Allan Boyle just out on his own.

Scotland the Brave still going after a good result against Switzerland. Germany didn't look as fluid against Hungary as they did against Scotland but their usual efficiency :-)

Lacklustre, Boring, Frustrating, Dull. Just a number of words to describe England's performance yesterday. It shouldn't be doom and gloom as they are still in a good position, but annoying none the less.

Any one of the teams in Group C can still qualify for the Last 16 round which does make it interesting (for our competition at least).

Top of the leaderboard changed slightly again, although not many points won yesterday.

Not to be for Scotland the Brave who still strive to progress beyond the group stage of a major tournament for the first time.

Nearly a bump in the road for the Germans against the Swiss, but predicted service resumed by full time.

Nearly an upset tonight with current European Champions, Italy, leaving it late for a point against Croatia to ensure they made it to the round of the Last 16.

Spain were miserly with the goals against newcomers (to the Euros) Albania.

What do they say about buses?? Same can be said about draws today. Three of them out of four games. Not the most interesting of days in the Euros so far.

Group stages nearly done. The final four games on Wednesday and then the points will be awarded for the predictions of the "Last 16" teams.

Fiona Cottam still leads our competition, but Dave Leitch now hot on her heels.

WOW!!!! Well played Georgia. A great performance from the lowest ranked team in the tournament against arguably one of the favourites, and saw them qualify for the knockout stages in what is their first tournament. A lot of the so called "top teams" can learn from their approach. It's also always very nice to see Ronaldo upset (Life's little wins).

The group stages are now complete and points for predicting those teams qualifying for the Last 16 have now been added to our leader board. Don't worry if you picked teams in the wrong position (for example, you selected a team to win a group and they came runner up so play in a different match) as points are still available for the correct prediction of that match (result and score), so still points up for grabs.

Fiona Cottam has now stretched her lead and is the one to catch. Dave Leitch leads the closely packed bunch on her tail.

A couple of days break before the "excitement" (unless watching England) begins again.

(1) Fiona Cottam 121
(2) Dave Leitch (A) 112
(3) Sandra Starling 111
(4) Andy McKinnon (A) 109
(5)= Philip Benn (A) 108
(5)= Tom Fawdrey 108
(7)= Neil Fawdrey 106
(7)= Frank Boddy 106

An interesting few days for the round of Last 16. Germany typically efficient. the Swiss shocking current Champions Italy to set up a quarter final against lack lustre England who surely at some point must play better. Without a magical moment from Bellingham, England would be on the plane home by now.

Belgium too France to the wire before an unlucky deflection settled the tie. Was it just me that had a wide smile watching Ronaldo blub after missing his penalty against Slovenia. A team worse at penalty shoot outs than England?

With only 7 games left, the leader board in our competition looks like this.

(1) Fiona Cottam 194
(2) Dave Leitch (A) 188
(3) Philip Benn (A) 183
(4) Neil Fawdrey 179
(5)= Les Smith 178
(5)= Dave Leitch (B) 178
(7) Andrew Sharples 174
(8) Chris Roddie (A) 172
(9) Clive Roddie 171
(10)= Tom Fawdrey 168
(10)= Andy McKinnon (A) 168
(12)= Frank Boddy 167
(12)= Bob Steed (B) 167
(12)= Bob Steed (C) 167
(15) Allan Boyle (A) 166
(16) Alison Fawdrey 165
(17)= Tony Walker (A) 163
(17)= Andy McKinnon (B) 163
(19) Bob Steed (A) 162
(20)= Tony Walker (B) 161

(22)= Helen McKinnon 160
(22)= Allan Boyle (B) 160
(23) Darren Riley 158
(25) Sandra Starling 157
(26) Tony Walker (C) 151
(27) Jack Fawdrey 149
(28) Chris Roddie (B) 144
(29) Philip Benn (B) 105

Fiona Cottam still has a slender advantage and runner up in our previous competition, Neil Fawdrey, making a late charge.

*Up to and including Austria v Turkey.

Well, it was a surprise to me as much as anyone that England have made it through to the semi-finals. A much improved performance from the previous games and perfect penalty shoot out to set up a semi-final with the Dutch.

The hosts Germany have packed their bags with Spain to take on France in the other semi-final.

The top of our leader board has changed a bit and with just 3 games to go, Dave Leitch sits proudly at the top with his two entries in the top 3 positions.

(1) Dave Leitch (B) 243
(2) Philip Benn (A) 230
(3) Dave Leitch (A) 223
(4)= Chris Roddie (A) 219
(4)= Andrew Sharples 219
