Goal scorer needed ASAP

Just as I said before the season begun and got crucified on here,

A goal scorer is needed….

Acquah 11 goals in 53
Telford 5 goals in 40
Garner 6 goals in 44

Would anyone like to argue with this stats again now?

The strikers stats may not be impressive but they aren’t helped by two things in particular
The first is that no one gets a decent run of games in the team.
And No one creates any chances for the strikers. Garner was up front and no one got within twenty yards of him when we were going forward.

I don’t think anyone would really argue that. We struggled last season and it was only when Stockton came in that we had someone who looked a goal threat every game. Unfortunately players like him are few and far between and they cost a lot. Anyone scoring regularly tends to get a bigger move as we saw with Josh Gordon after one very good season, think of Quigley before that too.

Also last season we had Whitfield who scored snd assisted a few and both would’ve been nice to have this season.

It’s not just the forwards though, the delivery into them isn’t great at times. Newby has improved for me and is getting some better balls into the box, unfortunately though Mahoney and Worrall have been injured mostly and Kouyate looks anything but a footballer.

The forwards need to do more in terms of running, holding the ball and being a nuisance, they’re too easy to defend against at times. But also the rest of the team need to improve the supply to them. I actually thought Garner looked decent today particularly coming deeper but he’s not an out and out striker. Acquah is hit n miss, Telford hasn’t shown much but hasn’t had a run of games but needs to work harder.

Clemence isn’t daft though he’ll know we need better up there but it all depends on availability and money.

We have what we have for now. I'd like to see Dallas get a run of games. I would never start Acquah and Kouyate together, at least one and maybe both should be impact subs. I know it was windy but the air shot by Kouyate today reflects a lot of his end product at this stage of his development.

You don't have to have 1 who will score lots of goals but, if not, you some who can get a few and some who have enough skill to create a few. We have no attacking players who can do either. If you want to see players who can do those things you should have watched the Chesterfield v Notts County match before us where both teams had players of that type and will, therefore, bot be near the top at the end of the season.

[/quote]That may be true but we are always being told that we have a top end EFL2 budget. If we don't, you need somebody with an eye for a player who will look at players from the National League and National League North where there have always been players who come through and play at higher levels.
Our budget hasn't stopped us getting outstanding players like Farman, Canavan, Spence and Campbell plus Jackson is well on the way to joining that group but their efforts will be ruined without some decent attacking players.
Spence, who is well capable of playing at a higher level, came from the National League and there are good attacking players there every season.
In fact, the top scorer in EFL2, other than Andy Cook, is a Bromley player, Michael Cheek, who was in the National League for years and another is Luke Molyneux of Doncaster who was outstanding at Barrow when playing in an awful Hartlepool team.

Few efforts we had I thought were tame to say the least especially with wind behind us! And imo they should be more than capable of hitting a ball with power and on target at this level..

The league games are clearly a concern but bringing Chelsea away into the doom mongering is absurd.

You’re probably right. Didn’t expect much did we. But we didn’t score or remotely look like scoring. Same at Fleetwood the other night.

I honestly don't think we need to. There's 10 outfield players and they're all shot-shy for some reason. We had a fair old sea-breeze behind us in the 2nd half today and none of them seized the initiative.
Pre game warm-ups are largely shot based, maybe we should pass the ball backwards and sideways more before the actual game begins.
Come the refs whistle one or two of them might even try the odd pot-shot!
