Rugby move to Holker Street
Here’s a scenario how about the rugby sell Craven Park and move to Holker Street. We move to a new stadium. Win, win for everyone. Here’s how it works some of the money from the sale of CP goes to updating HS we use some along with Government funding to move into a new stadium. Both clubs have their own new stadiums what could possibly go wrong ?

Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
Barrow is getting 200m to go round the whole area. Look at the other new-ish ground around the country at our level , it's not going happen the money is not there. We'd be looking at something more like Boston .. Do we really want that?
Barnet - 60m
York - 44m
Wimbledon - 32m
Fylde - 25m
Boston - 5m

The 200m is seed money to encourage private investment that hoped to bring it up to £800m. Yorks facility was a mixture of Council and private investment the private being two thirds of the money. The money is there and hopefully both clubs in Barrow are involved in the conversation.BarrowLad71 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 8:23 am Barrow is getting 200m to go round the whole area. Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
Someone could just ask tonight? The CEO would know if even any basic talks have happened
Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
It's a chance to talk to the football side of the club tonight. The owners are said to be arranging a session with them in March.
THE NORTHERN WAY
Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
So we’d move into a Salford like, sterile “new” ground owned predominantly by the council, and the egg chasers get HS which has had more investment from the owners in the past 4-5 years than the previous 50. Make it make sense…FanzoneFan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 22, 2026 10:39 pm Here’s a scenario how about the rugby sell Craven Park and move to Holker Street. We move to a new stadium. Win, win for everyone. Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
Is ownership crucial for long term financial security and sustainability? I am struggling to link when owning HS given us any real competitive advantage or long term sustainability down the years? Some of the most successful football clubs at our level and right to the top of European football don't own their grounds. As for sterile? A modern ground doesn't have to be, with fan input to design, it could be the best out there.Bombadel wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 2:36 pmSo we’d move into a Salford like, sterile “new” ground owned predominantly by the council, and the egg chasers get HS which has had more investment from the owners in the past 4-5 years than the previous 50. A whole new mindset is needed on this emotive subject.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

Totally agree Nige regarding this thread. The Barrow Rising and Mythical Fields of Dreams contains all the best and most pertinent points. Admin would be best closing this one down and just leave the other one running.
Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
The rugby and football will not share a stadium. Why would they? Our ground is better than it ever has been. The change over the years especially since getting back into the league has been astonishing. Thinking back a fair few years now I would have laughed at anyone who told me the ground would be as developed as it is now. Holker St is our ground. Not the councils. Not the rugby. Yes it's not the Emirates or Spurs but I don't want it to be like them and I certainly don't want it to be like Salford. It's a league 2 football side. Some of the fans need a big reality check. This isn't Wrexham.
Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
No one is disputing the ground has improved in the last 5 seasons and hats off to all involved in financing it and making it happen, but it is still miles away from being a ground that can lead to financial stability and long term sustainability for the club. You’re right, this isn't Wrexham and that’s the reality check.Rtw6095 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 6:29 pm The rugby and football will not share a stadium. Why would they? We’ve barely sold out the 1901 room for the next few games, surely one of the ways to bring more finances through the doors is success on the pitch, and then the popular side is next up for development with the garage being bought (it was mentioned at a qna a while back it’s a “carrot for potential development, with the impact of AUKUS on the town) look at Morecambe, much more developed ground than ours and attendances are dropping, also saw a hospitality photo of barely anyone there. League position first, then the popular side development imo.Jonty wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 6:53 pmNo one is disputing the ground has improved in the last 5 seasons and hats off to all involved in financing it and making it happen, but it is still miles away from being a ground that can lead to financial stability and long term sustainability for the club. You cannot guarantee success on the pitch. Our crowds are down, the atmosphere is as flat as I can ever remember it and, if, as you pointed out, the 1901 has barely sold for the next few games then thats a concept they’ll have to think about.Bombadel wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 7:17 pmWe’ve barely sold out the 1901 room for the next few games, surely one of the ways to bring more finances through the doors is success on the pitch, and then the popular side is next up for development with the garage being bought (it was mentioned at a qna a while back it’s a “carrot for potential development, with the impact of AUKUS on the town) look at Morecambe, much more developed ground than ours and attendances are dropping, also saw a hospitality photo of barely anyone there.
