Re: Gateshead v Barrow
I live in Whitley Bay and there was no rain here yesterday morning so it was either incredibly localised or chucked it down overnight as there was a bit of surface water when I woke up, think they might just be devising excuses and the pitch was never going to be playable

Re: Gateshead v Barrow
I got told today their pitch was under water in area's & there really wasn't much they could do to sort it.
Sounds like it's not just a mud bath but absolutely waterlogged with no where for any fresh water to go.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Gateshead v Barrow
not a chance of the gateshead game being on-amber alert monday for north east
"A band of sleet and snow is expected to move eastwards across the region during Monday morning and early afternoon, clearing from the west through the afternoon, but possibly becoming slow moving over North Sea coastal counties during the evening. Snowfalls of 2-5 cm at low levels "

But that water couldn't have appeared between 4pm on Friday night and 12 on Saturday.spirit of 1990 wrote:I got told today their pitch was under water in area's & there really wasn't much they could do to sort it.

Re: Gateshead v Barrow
It was raining quite heavily in Newcastle when I arrived around 12.15pm or so; not sure when it started or how long it lasted but it had certainly stopped by 1.30pm - by when the match had been called off.geobarrovian wrote:I live in Whitley Bay and there was no rain here yesterday morning so it was either incredibly localised or chucked it down overnight as there was a bit of surface water when I woke up, think they might just be devising excuses and the pitch was never going to be playable
My fallback fixture was Whitley Bay v Hebburn Town (Bay won 5-0); their pitch seemed soft on top but firm below and was certainly playable. It didn't look like the coast had seen the same heavy rain that Newcastle had; the pavements between the metro and the ground were damp, nothing more.

We're beginning to sound like Macc supporters.......different area's whether it's a hundred yards or two mile's must have different ground underneath the top soil surely, some will be able to drain well, others won't.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Gateshead v Barrow
Just wondering,if Gateshead's pitch is as bad as they say it is, it may well still not be playable for 22nd January if the weather keeps up.Anyone know, say if it was called off on Monday 21st how this would affect the 22nd Stockport game-would it be to shorter notice for Stockport!.

From BBCRC twitter:
@bbccumbriasport: Gateshead confirm to BBCRC Sport that they are looking at an alternative venue to stage tomorrow night's FA Trophy tie against Barrow AFC.
Any suggestions of alternatives?

Carlisle? it's about half way and a very good pitch, and Carlisle are away on Saturday so time for it to recover for their next match.
