Nature of the game unfortunately. However, it will be a gamble for Evatt. He has everything set up with barrow to (I believe) push us towards playoffs next season. I’m sure he would aim even higher !

Then championship clubs would come knocking. Would like to see him give us a shot in the EFL. Think it would be good for us and good for him.

No one expects him to stay with us forever, and if he goes to Bolton I wish him luck, but PLEASE DONT LEVE US YET EVO!!!

This is an interesting read from the other side - the Dougie Freedman story towards the end sounds a bit familiar:

Anyone slagging off Ian Evatt after what he’s done for this club, this town even is a moron
I really hope he stays but only if he’s committed, think we’ve reached the point now unfortunately where anytime a better job is available his agent is going to be pushing for him to get a move; the biggest shame of it all will be we’ve never had that chance to celebrate altogether with the trophy and thank him for what he’s done

I would love Evo to stay at Barrow, but I would like him to be 100% behind managing Barrow not distracted by Bolton's approach.

I have no idea whether this is the issue that is causing different opinions re the compensation figure as I have no idea what’s in the contract

However the issue about are we a NL or EFL is also possibly a legal one as well . Yes we are champions - yes we are therefore eligible to be promoted - but all leagues membership constitution is decided at their AGMs along with any other rules . Therefore until all playoffs (EFL and NL) are complete and an AGM takes place and the list of teams in each is formally agreed the I would say it is very possible we are still technically and legally a NL team

Theoretically something could happen between now and an AGM that prevents us becoming an EFL team (can’t think of anything that would cause this but it’s about whether it’s possible )

So just because we are champions and eligible to be an EFL team next year doesn’t mean we actually are one yet.
I'm not sure it even needs to wait for the AGM - when the FA board ratifies the NL decision including our promotion then that should be confirmation enough

Has evo even spoken to Bolton yet ? He might have a chat to see how it lies and then think this isn’t for us where does that leave us ?

Possibly but I guess that’s why the clause may be open to different interpretations and not as black and white as some think. Problem with contracts is that sometimes they can’t for see the really crazy unusual situations that arise such as with COVID-19
Some people really do need to think a bit more before they post things on here

He might have had a chat already, he might have a chat today or next week. Makes no difference really. Bolton are potless and heading towards the National League.
Evatt wouldn't go there to do a job with one hand tied behind his back just for the sake of an hour and a half's less travelling.

Important things to remember:

1) Evatt wanting to join Bolton doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't enjoy being here. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

2) Agents only tend to get paid when their clients sign new contracts or make moves. Can't understate the influence Evatt's agent is potentially having on events. Surely no coincidence that a number of the Bolton media faces who are trying to pull strings and leak soundbites are followed by Evatt's agent on social media. The sad thing is, IE signing a 3 year deal will have been much more lucrative for the agent than a 1 or 2 year deal, so he's benefitted financially from it but now wants a move to benefit financially again from not honouring it. Agents are, sadly, parasites that we must learn to live with more and more as the game goes on.

3) A debt free football league club with a supportive board, engaging support and momentum on and off the pitch is always going to be an attractive prospect for managers, and i don't think we'd be short of interest should it come to it.

4) Our board are undoubtedly holding the best interests of the football club at the core of absolutely every decision they make, which is a joy to see, and great for the future of the club.

5) We're going to be watching FL football on Holker St with a roof on the HSE. We could be watching Micky Moore lead the team out and that'd still be beyond our wildest dreams of even a few years ago... Things are good at BAFC.

It will be whatever is stated in the contract - I'm sure they will have stipulated what counts as promotion. It could also come down to whether he's already been paid his bonus and wage increase. Can't see how there can be any dispute.

Having said that, the Bolton News has changed its story from "a dispute over the clauses in his contract", to "still haggling over compensation".

It's a game of poker and Barrow hold the aces because we have a team for next season and Bolton don't therefore their need to move things on is greater than ours. Either they will have to pay or persuade Ian Evatt to break his contract and that will have to be done soon as they need to get players in pretty quickly. It's to the advantage of both clubs for this to be sorted but much more important for them than us.

Mickey Moore, felt sorry for him totally out of his depth, yep well put ste, putting aside the disappointment, we could only have dreamed of been in this position 2 years ago

chipmunx wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 10:26 am it's all to do with which figure you use. the players and manager have a clause that gives them an increase if we are in the league - partly due to being paid 52 weeks in the EFL and not 44 in the NL and partly just an increase. Barrow are saying it should be based on the EFL figure as we have been promoted. Bolton are saying it should be on the NL figure.
Surely the NL season is finished with and we are now a football league side so IE is the manager of a EFL side?? Seems pretty simple to me
Actually no they're not.

The date that matters is the one on which the FL hold their summer conference on [ which at the moment keeps getting pushed back ] as that's the day the promotions and relegations and therefore the compositions of each division are all ratified.

Spot on Ste, one of the more sensible and reasoned posts on this thread.
