russell_anderson wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 12:01 pm It's a game of poker and Barrow hold the aces because we have a team for next season and Bolton don't therefore their need to move things on is greater than ours. Either they will have to pay or persuade Ian Evatt to break his contract and that will have to be done soon as they need to get players in pretty quickly. It's to the advantage of both clubs for this to be sorted but much more important for them than us.
I'm assuming that Evatt's vow of silence is as much to assist Bolton as it is to support BAFC. If he takes decisive action to assist a move this does not help Bolton. I'm sure that somewhere there is already a draft press release in which our soon to be erstwhile manager tells the world what a wonderful club we are but how he simply could not resist the temptation of the great Bolton Wanderers. But if he either declares his desire for this outcome too early or walks he becomes a contract breaker at worst a rather shallow, self-interested if talented bloke at best. Whether these things are true or not is not really relevant. But I get the impression that perception means a lot to him.

He might be able to see this iceberg approaching where he has to take a position. I think he might be a little naïve in the politics of all of this. I also think that he might be somewhat sensitive to criticism. Its almost impossible to go through your career without being thought of badly by someone for doing something. Perhaps he should give Neil Warnock a ring for some Career Advice.

He might just be waiting to see how this pans out before saying anything. It is not in his interest to as say he wants the Bolton job if Bolton cant pay, wont pay the compo fee and he ends up with egg on his face

He might also be having his ear bent by an avaricious agent! ;)

Ste Story wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 11:54 am Important things to remember:

1) Evatt wanting to join Bolton doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't enjoy being here. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

2) Agents only tend to get paid when their clients sign new contracts or make moves. Can't understate the influence Evatt's agent is potentially having on events. Surely no coincidence that a number of the Bolton media faces who are trying to pull strings and leak soundbites are followed by Evatt's agent on social media. The sad thing is, IE signing a 3 year deal will have been much more lucrative for the agent than a 1 or 2 year deal, so he's benefitted financially from it but now wants a move to benefit financially again from not honouring it. Agents are, sadly, parasites that we must learn to live with more and more as the game goes on.

3) A debt free football league club with a supportive board, engaging support and momentum on and off the pitch is always going to be an attractive prospect for managers, and i don't think we'd be short of interest should it come to it.

4) Our board are undoubtedly holding the best interests of the football club at the core of absolutely every decision they make, which is a joy to see, and great for the future of the club.

5) We're going to be watching FL football on Holker St with a roof on the HSE. We could be watching Micky Moore lead the team out and that'd still be beyond our wildest dreams of even a few years ago... Things are good at BAFC.
All these things are spot on Ste. But the fascinating thing that I take from all of this is that all of the points you raise appear meaningless to IE who will be totally aware of them but allows this situation to continue. I think we can rule out curiosity by now as the reason. But then there are also lots of things about the Bolton job that dont sit right with my previous assessment of IE either.

So therefore I have to conclude that my assessment of IE and I fear the assessment of many others on this forum about the man is probably some way off kilter. He seems to be a guy that hides his true personality behind a outer shell that's become very well tuned to the business he's in. He is obviously more complex than some may think.

Bolton Wanderers clearly haven't got a pot to p!ss in.
Really.

While Sharon Brittan may be leading Football Ventures, one of the consortium’s members has caught the attention of not only the footballing fraternity but the music world as well, non-other than Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason.

And why would they put money into a struggling league 2 club that's cancering money at an alarming rate

I’m absolutely gutted to be honest. I genuinely thought he was different and that there would be some loyalty and he would want to give us a season or two to see what he could achieve. I know that doesn’t exists in modern football and it’s all about the money, and so it has proved again. I guess I was a little bit naive in thinking that he was a different sort of character. I think others on here are right, he has been good at managing himself and making us all believe that. I had no doubts that he would leave. Just didn’t think it would be for a club in the same league. For me...and this is very much my personal opinion and my current headspace, it’s totally taken a shine of what was achieved. It would be the most Barrow thing ever to appoint a ‘Micky Moore’ and end up where we started. I know that’s incredibly negative, and something I have admonished others on here before for, but can’t help how I feel. Yes we are still in the FL but god knows how much of that we will see with morons filling our beaches. Genuinely apologetic for the negative post but that’s how I feel atm.

Also him telling us that we had to shake the small club mentality and then signing for ‘bigger club’ in the same league was either bo^%*#% or it’s all about cash!

You haven't got him yet and you won't unless you pay up! Also, as one of the more discerning members on your forum wrote " luckily with Evatt (presuming it’s him) he’s going to have a near enough clean slate regarding players so can implement this style on the club and build. But that what it is a building project, and if it’s successful he’ll be with us temporarily! "

Really Johnno you've already told us about Nick Mason the Arsenal supporting drummer of Pink Floyd your beginning to sound like an old record :D

Anyway I digress. All this talk of agents reminds me of the issues we had with Kemy Agustien’s agency about 18 months ago. One would imagine IE's agent is working overtime for his fee now. Wonder if Agustein's agency did carry out their threat to take legal action as stated in the Mail article at the time. See https://www.nwemail.co.uk/sport/1737098 ... l-through/

Evatt's agent clearly tried to set this all up months ago, and they wanted this deal to go through in the period between Barrow getting promoted and the promotion being ratified (save £100k or so on compensation). Sadly for him, the Barrow board clearly don't agree with that.
What the agent thought would be easy to pull off has now ended up dragging his client's name into the mud.
