Re: Sack Dunn
I agree that it would be unfair to criticise effort, although we have definitely started a few games with a lack of urgency - Morecambe comes to mind.
Organisation and confidence are the main problems right now.
One clean sheet in 16 league games is a dismal return for a team that actually has a number of good defenders. Protection from midfield is an issue of course, but leaking goals would be a problem area that any new manager would immediately look to rectify. I'm certain that it could be done with the right guidance and without significant changes to the current squad.

From Dunns beginning some fans ignored the signs, when we played the mighty FC United and drew from a winning position.Toffeebluebird wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 10:59 amIt is not simply about caring for the club, it is about professionalism. Professional footballers who care about a club should not need any motivation.
I haven't seen any major evidence of any players 'slacking' on the pitch (Maybe Kay looked off it against Salford but that is the closest).
They are either just not good enough and /or the tactics are affecting their play but, for me, the effort has been there.
When we lost penalty shoot outs against Derby and Blackpool the cries came we will meet nothing like these in Division 2.
Yes we play nice football,Managers compliment our team .You can have as .such possession as you want but if you are not organized you will not win games.
Mistakes are continually happening in all positions ,players have lost confidence.
The next game should be Dunns last one if we do not get the 3 points no more hard luck stories.
The league table does not lie.

Re: Sack Dunn
Don't disagree totally but if we can remove the friendly from any reason to sack a manager. I would not even hazard a guess at how many teams have done the opposite that pre-season friendlies have shown, the number would be astronomical.Pedro wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 12:33 pmFrom Dunns beginning some fans ignored the signs, when we played the mighty FC United and drew from a winning position.Toffeebluebird wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 10:59 am

We were superb against Derby and could argue that we had the better chances (maybe take away the tired last 10 mins or so). This was a championship side and fans were right to think positively after that game, didn't watch Blackpool so cannot comment.
What I fully agree with is that we are not organised and that does come down to tactics but it also comes down to individuals. I know people like to look at things simplified and then put the blame on one person but Hird giving away a stupid pen or passing directly to a man in a shooting position, we could have easily had 4 points from the 1st 2 games. Then, we have the sloppy free kick given away against Forest Green, the lack of pressure on the ball from an over hit corner allowing Bolton to have one last chance, there have been a few more, along with good goals from the opposition (although you can always look at individuals/tactics for every goal conceded). These are all concentration errors at an individual level, there could be the argument that we shouldn't have been in the position to even be worried about the result but in some games that is down to the finishing, as in chances created but the final ball or finish is not good enough.
In conclusion, I am not saying that Dunn is the right or wrong man as I can see that we have shown good patches but we need to be wiser at an individual level as well. The manager is ultimately responsible in football but as a fan I have always tried to look at the bigger picture in these discussions, I am still thinking positive and the change in formation on Sat was something people have been crying for and we played well without a lot of possession but again one moment and one half chance for them decides the game. If he sticks with 4 at the back I believe (not strongly but the belief is still there) that the results will start to arrive.

Re: Sack Dunn
agree about 4 at the back, 3 is ok if you possess players who can press etc and also if the opposition play with 3 recognised forwards but in this league a lot of teams don't but pack their midfield areas so then they break quick and then the defence get caught out because nobody knows who to pick up !

Re: Sack Dunn
And how do you propose we move on?
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.
If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Re: Sack Dunn
The straw that broke the camel's back for me. I was prepared to back David Dunn and I had confidence that we weren't far away from turning it around but that just seeps away with every game. His record here and throughout his short managerial career just proves he isn't a manager. 2 wins from 20 odd games here and 7 from 50ish overall.
Survival was the reasonable expectation this year but to do that you need to be difficult to beat, which we just aren't. It doesn't matter that we've scored twice, because we will concede 4. He's a likeable guy and I do feel sorry for him but the more the season progresses it proves that he's just not cut out for management.
I think it's time for our board to take stock and get someone in that's got experience at this level, which should have been done after Evatt left. I fear that if we get relegated we will never get back. There's a reason we spent 50 years in non-league and that's because opportunities don't come around like this very often for clubs like us.

Re: Sack Dunn
I think it's pathetic we're still debating this!, we as a club can't keep clutching at straws.
The board made a monumental f*** up when they appointed Dunn , I personally couldn't believe the way it happened people on here still burying their heads in the sand, its time to face reality, there's no such thing as fairies ,no bad luck it's down to recruitment, tactics motivation, its nearly too late now ,it's so depressing, I love our club but if we go down i can see us doing a Stockport or york.
