Re: Colchester Vs Barrow
We have taken 16 points from the last 8 matches and are 3rd in the form table over that period. I just wish everyone would just appreciate what has been achieved by the staff and the players over the last few weeks, it really is a remarkable achievement, they should all be congratulated on this and we are almost there

Agree on the value of the point against this particular team. Their last five games are horrible with the sides they play currently amongst the ones you'd most rather not face right now at the top or bottom. I tend to look at Colchester as a form of insurance policy. If you can stay above them its very unlikely that you'll go down.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 7:46 pm A game that seemed to swallow time itself.
That was as bad as we’ve seen all season and it shows why we are where we are. The players played out of their skins the last 45 minutes they were out and then reverted to that in the first half today. Never mind from game to game, it’s half to half with us - no consistency at all.
I’m over the moon with a totally undeserved point (a perfectly good goal disallowed and one they somehow managed to bollox up and miss on the goal line). We keep getting gifted lifelines, let’s not mess it up.
Re: Colchester Vs Barrow
I thought their player headed the ball out of Dixon's hands. Report on official website also says so.

Their commentators wanted it...However those goals will never be allowed in this modern era. It's a foul, ball is in 2 hands whether he's headed it out of his hands or Dixon has banged it onto him makes no odds.saltcellar wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 8:41 pmI agree.
Dixon caught and had the ball in both hands when the Colchester player headed it and scored.
Stood behind Ray Wilkie for years. Best education I ever had.

Re: Colchester Vs Barrow
Just reflecting on today. Firstly, of the top 10 teams at the start of the day, only Newport won (and of course we beat them on Friday), so it just shows what a strange league/season this is. As a result, I don’t have much faith in predictions about how the remaining matches, either ours or our rivals’, will go - you just can’t guess! Secondly, we weren’t great for most of the first 75 minutes today, but having equalised (a well-worked goal too), we could have gone on to win. One of my guilty pleasures these days is looking at the fans forums of our rivals - the Colchester one (which is strangely quiet for a team in trouble) pointed out that we score a lot in the last quarter of the game and said we have “ambition and no lazy showboaters”. Most other forums would love Quigs on their team too. Despite some really loose passing today we stuck with it. Credit to RK and his team for making the changes. One final thought, I like Luke James and think he offers something different to Quigs (and Calvin Andrew if he plays) - his energy and running are a nuisance to other teams. Great result, nearly there ....

Re: Colchester Vs Barrow
Agree BB The number of draws keeps stacking up week by week. I'd go as far as to say that Walsall seem to have just about perfected the 0-0 draw. It is very odd though I personally feel that it is something to do with the "levelling of the playing field" effect caused by COVID.
Until today we seem to have largely bucked this trend. There does seem to be a reasonably widely held view that RK deliberately targets the last quarter of the game to change things around and optimise the tempo. I haven't a clue whether this is deliberate or whether it works as planned save to say that we do seem to score the majority of our goals in the second half. We also seem to concede late as well which has the effect of tipping the games away from draws, one way or the other.
I'd happily take another few weeks of bore draws all round though.

Re: Colchester Vs Barrow
The only thing that changed the match today was the strength of the wind. Colchester had it in the first half and didn't score the goals they should have and it was pretty obvious from early in the second half that we were getting on top even allowing for the fact that we hardly ever managed to put 2 passes together. We were getting on top before the changes were made in midfield which IMO made no improvement at all although Beadling for Jason Taylor was probably worthwhile as Jason was running out of energy. The really worthwhile change was Andrew coming on because when you can't pass the ball to your own team and you have a strong wind in your favour you can make some progress if you have a big man who can control a high ball and head it properly and he's the only striker we have that can do those things.

Luke James turned in the box and rolled the ball back to Beadling
