I cannot believe after the last 4 managers the board would risk someone with absolutely no direct managerial experience. Would they?

Why not? What good have the last four been? Good at extracting severance payments from a board with no real football experience, and that's about it.

We need some fresh thinking and hopefully our new Sporting Director will help our board who have kept this club alive to make the right decision.

If it happens at least it's someone we know. He was a good player for us, almost something of a warrior. A clever player too, making the most of not being lightning quick. If it goes ahead it will be an Evatt type appointment (arguably a Dunn/Jolley one too), rather than a Cooper/Brown one. A huge punt , but we'll all back him to the hilt. If he becomes our next manager I hope he is able to persuade really decent players to make a commitment to Barrow.

Yep how anyone would give Jolley the job with his history amazed me.
Now this is second hand but last night I was talking to a local Football coach who was complaining about the way the academy lads were told the Academy was being put on hold.
We then talked about the Newbys and the last time a local lad played and got a hat trick and was dropped for the next game.
He then went on to tell me about a local Football agent who offered the soccer a forward who had scored 20 goals in the EFL waiving his fees but the soccer said no thanks.
The people who have saved the club were open but time seems to be taking its tole on the community connection and it's openness.

This appointment is a massive gamble on the face of it putting a football agent in such a position. However the people who made this decision will be better informed than we will ever be. In BoDs We Trust.

That’s why I would prefer Wild or Williamson personally, least they’ve had some experience already
If it is Hird I wouldn’t have any complaints but you’d hope he’d be bringing someone like Rob Kelly as assistant, or trying to persuade Neil McDonald to stay. Someone experienced on the coaching side at least

Am not sure what the difference is between a Director of Football and a Sporting Director - other than perhaps the addition of responsibility for managing the training facility issues. Has risks associated with it but lets see if it works. It would suggest that our next Manager is not likely to be an EFL "lag" but will herald a return to the developing manager (at this Level) model.

If I'm pleased it's rather more because all of those concerns I've had about a Brown appointment have been put to bed. Most of the rhetoric that emanated from Phil Brown leading up to the ending of the season are contained within the SD brief. I cannot imagine that the BoD have simply come up with this over tea and biscuits. So Phil Brown as suspected when appearing to talk as if he had the authority of the BoD with him, clearly did not. This tells me that the BoD is still very much in control in determining the destiny of the club (for better or worse) and on balance that can only be a good thing.

Having said that if was the BoDs intention to implement this model come what may must have known that Phil Brown would likely not be able to accept it from the start. So all the talk about a Brown contract having been at a very advanced stage is a little confusing.

I agree it is a little confusing but I have to say I don’t think the interview PH did with Adam on the last day of the season was his finest. The comments in the sane interview about Quigley contradicted everything he said at the time of his move
