Club Statement - Phil Brown

Find it hard to believe that after weeks of back and forth they came to an agreement, only for Brown to demand a longer contract once they'd verbally agreed.

That's exactly what he does wherever he applies for a job. Once in post he goes on to demand more and more money for crap players. No doubt another agent involved somewhere too!

Mate of mine at Preston said to me "you've dodged a bullet there."

He learnt all the tricks of the trade from Sam Alladyce. Big Sam, Harry Redknapp and Phil Brown they are all cut from the same cloth.

It would certainly fit the narrative of a contract agreed by both parties until one party decided they wanted more from the deal at the last moment.

A cynic might suggest that agreeing in principle to a contract and then throwing in a curved ball at the end is rather a crude tactic designed to catch you unawares.

It says a bit about the nature of the person chucking the curved ball too. I did notice that the statement put out by the BoD when it did come did not seek to explain. Just - ‘thank you and goodnight”

Perhaps it was more about the conditions of those 3 years on offer and any potential breaks if targets weren't met?

I believe that the new sporting director is the reason Phil brown was never appointed, he has been in the club for a few week and he didn't believe he was the right man, now he's working hard to bring that man in

If that were true then Phil could consider himself very hard done by. But it would be very unusual for a Sporting Director or DoF to just turn up and have an agreed contract with a prospective manager torn up.
More likely perhaps that the appointment of the Sporting Director was not disclosed to Phil Brown until the contract had been initially drawn up. Again though I would expect the role of a Sporting Director would be clearly defined in the Managers terms of reference in the contract. Either scenario would not reflect at all well on the BoD.

So most likely perhaps if it was about the Sporting Director, that Phil Brown negotiated the contract knowing about the SD but ultimately just could bot reconcile his role alongside it.

Didn’t say anything to harsh really, although to contradict him, we have a DOF, whereas they don’t.

I didn't get that feeling at Halifax, there's no doubt for me it's a professional football club and it deserves its crack at the promotion campaign they'll be building next year."

He is after their job hardly going to say I left because I wanted more money.
It will go something like I stepped in saved them at the last minute with a team that was totally disorganised.
He did his job and got us over the line.

I think that is absolutely fair comment, there is undoubtedly still an air of non-league about us right throughout the club including us as supporters. Perhaps inevitable after so long out of the Football League but it exists and is something we absolutely must shake off sooner rather than later if we want to become an established Football League club.

Very good point. Still too much of the "I'll take 3rd bottom" rubbish flying around. If that's our ambition we might as well be in the NL and win a few games.

Spot on. Yes finishing 3rd bottom keeps u in the EFL and therefore the extra money continues to come in but the biggest issue with that mentality over a few seasons is that it will eventually bite u on the arse, a la Scunthorpe this season.
