Ollie Banks
Re: Ollie Banks
Did Banks “go off the boil” as people say only when Rooney came back?
everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it

Re: Ollie Banks
Shame it didn’t work out for Ollie was a good player for us and will never forget the cup wonder goal.He really cared and I think some bookings caused by frustration when others went missing in games not pulling their weight. All the best in future Ollie and thank you cos we would be down and out without his goals.

Seems we are looking to cut the budget and replacing players who will be paid less.
I am not saying thats wrong .
I suppose the cost of paying him till we got a fee meant it was better to let him go.
Chesterfield are saying he is going there as he has worked with Paul Cook before
I very much doubt the decision to let him leave was based on wanting to bring in cheaper players. If he wasn't in the managers plans then best to let him go.
I'm sure Pete wild will have a decent budget to play with.

Re: Ollie Banks
IMO the signing of Rooney was the catalyst for Banks demise. As soon as Rooney appeared it was clear that he was going to be the leader on the field. He also plays in an attacking midfield position which given the lack of goals being scored was always going to give him in a prominent role in the squad and one that would lead to the team virtually adapting its style of play around him. I'm not knocking this. Rooneys return was one of the most positive things to happen to us at an otherwise very poor stage of the season.
However you can track the falling off of Ollies form to around the same time and I dont think that is coincidental. The issue is why given this situation the club chose to deal with Ollie by granting him a long contract and bigging up his role as club captain. Fast forward a month. Ollies form has gone, his disciplinary record has finally caught up with him, references are being made to the possibility that he's burned out, that he tries too hard, that he is not a team player, references not only posted on this forum but coming out of Coopers camp.
His form didn't return. We wont get the old Ollie back for the duration of his contract and the relationship broke down to the extent that we wont even get a fee for the guy. This is not a good news story for Barrow AFC.

Wonder what it actually cost the club to facilitate these "left by mutual consent" deals. Not sure of the details, but didnt Cooper have 2 years left on his contract, same with Banks and a year for Zanzala ? I assume they all walked away with a wodge of cash in their back pockets ?

Re: Ollie Banks
If you ain't in your bosses plans then the only option you have is to fight tooth and nail for your place ahead of the current players the manager likes and are firmly in his plans, plus then any new signings that will no doubt get game time. In reality you're looking at a lot of time spent out of favour sat on the bench watching your short playing career time waste away and then hoping someone comes along in Jan and rescues you from such misery.Jeeby wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 11:58 am Wonder what it actually cost the club to facilitate these "left by mutual consent" deals. Cancelling your contract in mutual agreement with the club knowing that other clubs are interested and you'll be a free agent to negotiate is a no brainer. Doubt they'll be sat around trying to squeeze a payout too. It's win win for both parties and also goes with the best wishes from all the fans.
Cooper was no doubt sacked with no guarantee of another job, that one will have cost us for sure. Thankfully that worked out well for us though.

Replacement is in the building
Re: Ollie Banks
Surely mutual termination means that we don't need to pay up the rest of their contract? The player will no doubt agree to terminate as they'd have something else lined up, otherwise they'd sit around taking the money.Jeeby wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 11:58 am Wonder what it actually cost the club to facilitate these "left by mutual consent" deals. Re: Ollie Banks
Mutual consent basically means both parties agree. It doesn’t necessarily mean that there is no financial attachment to the consent.
If you ask the question “ if I give you a wedge are you happy to consent to cancelling your contract?” And you say yes then that would be deemed as mutual consent.

Re: Ollie Banks
A replacement or an upgrade? Baring in mind Banks was only on the bench you’d be looking for someone to start alongside Rooney and Gotts if they are “replacing” (I.e getting the same money) as Banks, not just a sub

First read that as “if I give you a wedgie are you happy to consent to cancelling your contract?”Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:50 pm Mutual consent basically means both parties agree. It doesn’t necessarily mean that there is no financial attachment to the consent.

Feeling particularly infantile today.

Cooper had slightly over 2 years left on his contract - I would have thought he would have expected at least 1 year to be paid up.Jeeby wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 11:58 am Wonder what it actually cost the club to facilitate these "left by mutual consent" deals. Zanzala had a season - he’s not just going to walk away and expect nothing. Why would he do that - probably got 4 or 5 months.
Banks 2 years left - if he was desperate to go might have taken 3 or 4 months if he knew he was going to take up another 2 year contract at Chesterfield- but there’s no way he would go there and find himself out of pocket over the next two years
