man mountain Micky Droy in the Chelsea ranks

Saw him playing for Kingstonian in the 1990 Trophy run.

He’d not lost any of his considerable, er, stature.

I founded and wrote for a fanzine years ago called the Chelsea Independent. We instituted a 'trophy' named after Micky Droy, awarded to any player who managed to kick the ball into the third tier of the east stand, which was then further from the pitch than it is now.

I saw Micky Droy play at Carlisle in 1983 I think. Butch Wilkins too . Droy headed the Carlisle goalies punt about 50 yards back down the pitch. It was incredible. He was physically immense.

One of the first so called big games I saw involved Chelsea, 1982 at Newcastle United. Garry Chivers, Colin Lee and man mountain Micky Droy in the Chelsea ranks Keegan, Mick Channon and a young Waddle in Newcastle’s. Not seen either play in the flesh since.

Is the Gary Chivers you talk about actually the big centre forward who played for England called Martin Chivers? What a great centre forward he was.

Nope no relation as far as I’m aware, he was a pretty versatile defender back in the day.

Barrow match is now the main game on Sky Sports+ (Channel 412) due to the Wimbledon postponement. Does that mean extra TV revenue for the club?

As for Wimbledon's pitch they now have a sinkhole dues to the heavy rain. Will be very surprised the Chelsea game will be called of as all premier league pitches are about 60% synthetic and drain quite well. However, who knows!
