Loosing Carlisle and Morecambe will cost us a lot of revenue next season.Oldham would bring a lot here I would expect which would make up a bit of the short fall and have happy memories of our visit there in the FA cup.

Also losing Bradford, Port Vale & Doncaster in fact we have lost some good away followings in recent Seasons Wrexham, Stockport & Mansfield spring to mind, getting back to the NL Final a crowd of 50,000+ is expected.

Apparently there would have been more but one of the Wembley train stations is having planned engineering work and they’ve had to restrict the attendance you really couldn’t make it up also begs the question why not play the final at a Premier League ground. A few years ago Wimbledon played Luton in the final - Jason Walker I think was playing that day, and they switched the match to Man City’s ground because Wembley was unavailable, what made it worse was they charged a fortune for the tickets so I think only around 19 k attended. Why didn’t they just play it at a southern based ground ? And when Salford took on Fylde it was played in front of about 8k at Wembley when it was crying out to be played at say Blackburn or Preston.

Also on the point of the National League the play offs, they are normally completed in around a week so if you progress you’ve got an advantage in that the team you’re playing hasn’t had much rest. That’s not been the case this season there’s been a week off between each game.

I think momentum is massive in play offs and imo Southend and Oldham have had it. Both FGR and York had to wait to see who there opponent would be in the semi finals whilst Oldham and Southend played to qualify for the semi final. They both had good wins fans and players were buzzing and they had the momentum going into their games against FGR and York who had to wait two weeks before playing their play off semi finals

As the regular complaint about the number of relegation places from League 2 gets mentioned at this time of year I find it interesting how all seven teams in the NL automatics or playoffs are ex Football League teams. In the last four seasons only Bromley of the eight who have rejoined or are about to join Football League were / are new rather than returning.

Both sets of fans are very unhappy at the shambles that has unfolded - with the NL committee coming in for a lot of stick. TBF, no one knows who will be in any final and stadiums need booking well in advance, even that Salford v Fylde game probably never had a chance to be shifted as most stadiums would’ve been undergoing pitch work.
The one thing that does get mentioned a lot is the national stadium should’ve been built more centrally….the midlands. I suppose there’s plenty of arguments both for and against that but it does seem reasonable.

The national stadium should be in the countries capital city imo. If you look at other major sports in England their premier arenas are in and around London. Lords the home of cricket, Twickenham Rugby union Wimbledon for Tennis and Royal Ascot horse racing.
What it does not do though is mean that the National stadium in this case Wembley should always be used for every England international and all play off finals imo. We have plenty of fantastic modern state of the art stadia now all over England that could and should be considered and used for such fixtures

So last week I believe the ticket allocation for this game was increased from 30000 to 50000 once it was known who the two finalists were.

This would have been in full knowledge of the fact that Transport For London had long since scheduled engineering works that means that Wembley Central tube station will be closed at that time. Hence the chaos that will now ensue.

Should be a good game. Doubt many bluebirds supporters will be wanting a Southend win for obvious geographical reasons. However bear in mind that Oldham are now a financially well backed club again and are probably more likely to make a positive impact in L2. They would also be fishing in the same pond as us for players.
