If your giving your best in any job and you have a conscience your going to have sleepless nights along the way. Good for him that he’s willing to share his thoughts and anxieties and it seems to be the modern way I’m noticing harking back to the ethos of a problem shared is a problem halved. Don’t bottle things up let them go share the burden and move on. Hopefully lessens stress in the long term

Don’t think the Andy Whing unabridged version of Sleepless in Settle will be released anytime soon.

Have to agree. It wouldn't have inspired confidence in our players nevermind our fansSuffolk Blue wrote: ↑Mon Aug 04, 2025 11:53 amI heard those words too. I watched the club one. He came out with a great line, talking about how he’d had a few sleepless nights
this week because you never really know if your team is up to scratch until you play your first game. Really good honest interview.
Some on here seem to be wearing rose tinted glasses - praising his honesty. That's ridiculous.
A manager undermining his own ability (and that's what it amounts to) is not a good managerial trait. Any opposition, hearing those words, would feel quite positive of obtaining a result.
However, he's on a learning curve and he does seem honest, down to earth and hard working. I liked what I read in his Sky Football interview.
If he can refrain from using comments such as having sleepless nights before a forthcoming fixture we might have found the man who can consolidate our position in Div 2.

A quote totally taken out of context. Look at it positively, If it helps to be alert and attuned to a match ahead rather than being complacent. A healthy balance. Nothing wrong at all and brings an energy. The worst trait is not recognising you’re on the slide and not doing anything about it. See Carlisle last season.Sea Dog Sam wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 4:19 pmHave to agree. So, on the one hand you're criticising him for his honesty and on the other commending him! Make your mind up.Sea Dog Sam wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 4:19 pmHave to agree. It wouldn't have inspired confidence in our players nevermind our fansSuffolk Blue wrote: ↑Mon Aug 04, 2025 11:53 am

Some people just can’t help themselves. Despite all their best efforts, I have noticed on this forum that every now and again, a poster will inadvertently let their guard down for a moment, and allow a grain of positivity creep in, hoping it will go unnoticed.MisterPleasant wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 5:13 pmSo, on the one hand you're criticising him for his honesty and on the other commending him! It really needs to be stamped down on before it becomes a habit.

For me it’s not ready about being positive or being honest though I actually really respect his honesty. It’s more about fostering stereotypes.Bingley Blue wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 10:30 amSome people just can’t help themselves. A number of people on the forum, me included, have previously expressed irritation at the “little old Barrow” moniker we seem to eternally have to bear.
Stories like this simply feed that narrative. The publicity may be seen as positive. But then we can’t complain if those who don’t know the cub very well adopt that view. The comments made by AW, taken within the context of the story support that “against all odds” perception by which many will judge our team.
And the other significant aspect is that it was the specific comment about AW’’s “doubts” that were subsequently lifted from the Sky interview and re-used to describe AW’s reaction to the performance in other reports. As if it were his primary and predominant thought. Which I’m guessing it wasn’t.

Fair comments. It’s a hard narrative to shake and we have to deal with the perception from outside. Positively we use it to drive us on and defy the odds.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 2:15 pmFor me it’s not ready about being positive or being honest though I actually really respect his honesty. Glen Skivington was a different class to Newby, three great seasons for Derby, one of Barrows best ever players.
Re: Chesterfield FC V Barrow AFC (A) match thread
Going off-topic but I saw Glenn playing for (captaining?) England v Italy in March 1991. Kenny Lowe also played but might have been at Barnet by then?

Skivvy was without doubt the best footballer I’ve seen play for Barrow. He was class personified. His reading of the game his positional play his passing and defending ability the likes of at the time I’d never seen before or seen since in a Barrow shirt. He was a Rolls Royce centre half IMO

When he played for Derby Allan Ramage bollocked him for letting players run past him and shirking the tackles something Newby is accused of.
Good player but when it comes to tackling he could work for KFC..
Rolls Royce have to be talking about Kenny Lowe a. Rolls Royce but not a shirker when it came to tackling.

I didn’t like this sleepless nights narrative
We’ve been in the football league now 5 years we should be an established league club not plucky tiny little Barrow it’s a bit boring now. We’ve some good players we don’t need to go anywhere and play negative plucky underdogs football - negative football and negative mentality leads to negative results

Ha ha Lowes a tackler? he didn't have to with Proctor alongside him. I remember on many occasions the popular side getting on his case for not tackling. By his own admission that was not his game. He was without doubt the most skilful player on the ball we had but like I said the best footballer was Skivvy.Pedro wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 11:00 pmA Rolls Royce with a Lada heart.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 8:32 pm
